Newbie with post augmentation surprise.

I've had RLS for approximately 10 yrs, and consider it more on the low to moderate end of the scale. I was taking 1mg Ropinirole, and 900 mg Gaba before bedtime for about a year, but about 6 months ago, the symptoms worsened and my sleep Doc and I decided it might be augmentation and to eliminate the DA. That took about 1-2 months. (not fun). I began taking 2 ea tablets of (5mg Hydrocodone/325mg Acetaminophen) at night to help with the withdraw. I took my last Rop about a month ago, and have seen all symptoms improve to the point where I sometimes think of giving up all drugs (still on the Gaba and Hydro/Acet though). The surprise was last night...despite doing all things "normal" for me, (exercise, trigger avoidance, meds ) more sever symptoms returned, and lasted far longer than normal. It was the worst experience I have ever had with this !&^%$#@! condition. I'm at a total loss as to what could be happening and I would greatly appreciate your advice/suggestions.

Hmmm not sure, it might be you are still having some withdrawals, altho some what delayed withdrawals. Taking your last Ropinerole a month ago, for some withdrawals can take longer than a month. Maybe some one else will have a better explanation.

My thoughts too, jake and elisse. Sorry to hear about that. I just hope to ifht it will prove to be only a memory.... I had that a week or two ago, an almost out of the blue full blast rls attack. Not funny. Not at all!

Incidently, “to ifht” should be read as “tonight”.

I've written about similar experience with oxycontin- half hour after taking night time dose- 10mg- I get an rls attack. Not every night but some. I take 250mg of Paracetamol (acetaminophen ) and that clears it. Does not occur at midday.????

In your case I would be inclined to just take the Hydrocodone- without the aceteminophen (ace for short ) and see how that goes? You could the add ace in if and when necessary. The opioid may need to be increased a tad since the ace is a potentiator.

The other option is to look at what happened before this attack? Did your diet change- I've discovered very hot curry seems to burn up the oxy leading to rls attack. Also heavy exercise. If I'm careful with my triggers , I can get away with no attacks at all.

FYI - I'm on 2 ×10mg oxycontin and 5mg of oxynorm pd. That has me functioning fully with virtually no rls- unless I do something stupid like alcohol , fizzy drink and all those numerous triggers that I have to watch out for.

Good luck with your research.

Thanks for your response ML. I'll talk to the doc about subtracting the ace. I too try to avoid the triggers, but I really hate giving up the bon bons :)

Hi Jake

I have reduced my Ropinerole from 1.25mg to 1mg and I’ve been very smug that I had got the beast tamed with various supplements. But every time I think I’ve found the cure and plan to reduce the Ropinerole further it comes back with a vengeance. I’m now experiencing visual disturbances so yesterday I dropped all my supplements and last night had a pretty good night. This complaint constantly changes and confuses

Hey Lois My beast doesn't tame, but must love me because it wouldn't let go. At times I felt I would never get off the Rope, it was too easy to take just one more to quiet the demons. What really helped was adding hydrocodone. I don't see how I could have kicked it otherwise. (if in fact I have:) Best of luck to you.
