A iron infusion will get your ferritin level up after probably 1-3 infusions. so quickly. Iron pills can take months to move the ferritin level sometimes by only a small increase. pills can also be hard on the stomach. When do you ask for a iron infusion, i have no idea. Something to discuss with your doctor and what your ferritin level number is.
kmoore, Just wanted to add to Elisse's good advice/explanation. You probably know that after gastric bypass surg, absorption of nutrients is not what it once was. My sister had this type of surgery and ntritional deficiencies have been a problem for her. If you're not satisfied with your doctor's answers you might bring the subject up with the doctor who did your surgery. Also,if you're feeling dismissed/ blown off, it helps to be insistent about trying the infusions. You're the one with the pain, not them. Good luck,
