Augmentation would be persistant and unremmitting.

Sounds like you could be triggering the rls with something dietary or medically.

I agree. If I get into cycles like this, then I find I can often improve things by changing routines, such as when in the evening I take my ropinirole. I work on the principle of trying to catch my body out and it appears to work. I also vary my dose, upping it when I'm having a bad run of nights, but then dropping it down again. I've nothing to base it on except a gut feeling, but I think I'm holding off augmentation by keeping switching it around. Obviously the more tired you get the worse it is, so these vicious circles do tend to create phases in the condition.

Hi Beady, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems, you were doing so well on Tramodol and the patch.

I wonder are you taking any new meds, either prescribed or over the counter ? Or changed your diet in any way ? Or eating too many of those delicious mince pies ;) ?

I'm just looking for something that might be a trigger for your bad episodes, I can get bad nights after having an alcoholic drink, eating to many sugary things especially chocolate, taking Benelyn cough medicine, Halls mentholated lozenges and one memorably hellish night after having a large glass of 'sunny D' squash, (it seems I'm fine drinking fresh orange juice but have found any of the orange squashes with artificial colouring is an absolute no no for me).

There are others, mostly anything with to many 'e' numbers/ artificial colourings in them !!

Perhaps you could keep a diary for awhile writing down everything you have eaten or drunk each day including any tablets taken for example and see if there's any link between something you have eaten or drunk that day and then having a bad night with RLS.

I'm a vegetarian, so I have to make sure my iron levels don't drop to low, so I take a recommended iron supplement.

I think I'm one of the few on here that doesn't have the hereditary form of RLS, mine is from a rare but known side effect of taking a heart med called Digoxin. If I stop the meds the RLS will stop completely within about 4 days.

I have been prescribed other heart meds to try but unfortunately they're not as effective and so I'm encouraged to go back on Digoxin.

I am fortunately prescribed Tramadol for pain relief and touch wood it also seems to relieve most of the RLS thankfully.

My best wishes to you and I hope you get some relief soon, Geri

I know how you feel. My arms were so bad the past few nights I felt like they were electric so I have had to take more meripex which makes me sad. I'm having augmentation I know. I think we all go through this and there is really nothing we can do to stop it. RLS wears me out I always feel exhausted the next morning when this happens. When augmentation stops I will decrease my medicine back again. So much for getting off this medicine I need to go to the Dr get something in pain medicine to help me when I have bad nights. By the way do you have a good recipe for mincemeat pie I have never made it and my husband ask if I can make one. 🙂 Hope you feel better

Beady my grandmother used to male what she referred to as minsh pies they tasted like bombs due to war time restrictions.there is a company called Mr Kipling which produces delicious ones which are warmed up in the oven and eaten for luck on New Year's eve..

Mr Kipling mince pies have no resemblance to home made ones, which are very delicious!

I seem to be getting RLS more during the day and early evening, but having some good nights with only slight RLS. I am [still] confused by the exact meaning of augmentation - I believe the comment from my neurologist when I mentioned it to him was something along the lines of 'doesn't exist'! Take care.
