Help!!
Here is an abstract from the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases. I mentioned it on here before. 100% of people with Fibromyalgia tested positive for SIBO and 84% of people with IBS in this small study. 20% of controls tested positive.
Abstract
Background: An association between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) has been found.
Objective: To compare the prevalence and test results for bacterial overgrowth between IBS and fibromyalgia.
Methods: Subjects with independent fibromyalgia and IBS were compared with controls in a double blind study. Participants completed a questionnaire, and a lactulose hydrogen breath test was used to determine the presence of SIBO. The prevalence of an abnormal breath test was compared between study participants. Hydrogen production on the breath test was compared between subjects with IBS and fibromyalgia. The somatic pain visual analogue score of subjects with fibromyalgia was compared with their degree of hydrogen production.
Results: 3/15 (20%) controls had an abnormal breath test compared with 93/111 (84%) subjects with IBS (p<0.01) and 42/42 (100%) with fibromyalgia (p<0.0001 v controls, p<0.05 v IBS). Subjects with fibromyalgia had higher hydrogen profiles (p<0.01), peak hydrogen (p<0.0001), and area under the curve (p<0.01) than subjects with IBS. This was not dependent on the higher prevalence of an abnormal breath test. The degree of somatic pain in fibromyalgia correlated significantly with the hydrogen level seen on the breath test (r = 0.42, p<0.01).
Conclusions: An abnormal lactulose breath test is more common in fibromyalgia than IBS. In contrast with IBS, the degree of abnormality on breath test is greater in subjects with fibromyalgia and correlates with somatic pain.
eh! totally lost me
SIBO is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Bacteria don't really belong in the small intestine, especially not the upper part. It is hypothesized that SIBO causes or worsens Fibro, IBS and RLS. You know, the way that the flu makes you feel like crap. They SIBO with antibiotics that stay mostly in the gut and can actually be taken long term. Regular antibiotics that enter the bloodstream you really don't want to take long term. There are at least a dozen people on this forum alone that got spontaneous and unexpected relief from RLS while taking antibiotics for a totally unrelated condition, such as a sore throat. Eventually, after the antibiotics are discontinued the RLS returns.
I have RLS, IBS and probably chronic fatigue and I took the above lactulose breath test on two occasions. Both times negative. I may not have SIBO but I do tend to get an overgrowth of a yeast called Candida rather than bacteria. I truly believe that the root of all evil, including RLS, might lie in the micro-organisms that inhabit our bodies, especially the large intestine. What I lovingly refer to as our zoo animals. Sometimes they get out of control and need to be beaten back.
Right now I am anxiously awaiting the results of a study wherein they did fecal transplants on kids with autism. Fecal transplant means they took bacteria from the colon of a healthy donor and injected it into the colons of autistic kids.
Does that make sense? Is a breath test something worth investigating for yourself?
oh..............I get what your on about I got it in the first place but nothing to do with what im on about ..... thanking you
Put "RLS and Antibiotics" in the above search box. A post from a year ago will come up by DLGS. It will explain better than I can.
what are you on with I've got a trapped nerve in my neck
Do you have anything for rbs I do and now I take it at 6pm as this is when it starts and it cracks you up and this seems too help , your other pain invest in a tens machine and a massage cushion from Aldi they all make life a bit easier
oh me and vibrating cushion hmm.. think i'd pass on that one that'd have me going crazy really really....................... sensitive to anything that vibrates yuk!!
Ha ha your replies really. Making me laugh dont no if its ment to 😀 Hope u get sortted 👏👏
you may laugh ... let you off lol think the vibrating cushion would do more damage than good with me bouncing off the walls yike........

Nerve pain is the worse thing to deal with, not many meds help with mine, maybe if you could get refered to a pain clinic, and get some injections for the nerve pain ??, as i do know your rls is not at all controlled with any meds. Plus if you have the nerve pain on top of the rls, then the fibro will kick in aswell
yeah waiting see specialist about it so till then.... I gotta wait for owt like that in the mean time looking for something before I buy a water pistol and shoot myself in the head
Yes, you asked about nerve pain. Nerve pain is as bad to treat as RLS. Not much helps with a trapped nerve and the pain it causes. Hopefully you will get some help. Sounds like you need evaluation and also stronger pain meds. I can relate.
I can't take no more I'm going nuts with you
Got an appointment next weekend to have a Musculoskeletal assessment we'll see what they say hopefully get something sorted woke up last night (early morning seeing I didn't go to bed till 3am) woke up at 4am feeling like someone was turning my shoulder inside out ggrrrrr
If you have an entrapped nerve, or something else, cortizone shots CAN help, and also physical therapy, if it includes some tendonitis. (sp)
I'm seeing someone next weekend hopefully they'll see what's what at the moment with the RLS and fibro it's like fighting ww3 1 you gotta keep on the move 2 don't wanna move and 3 feeling yuk with sudden surges of pins and needles in my hand with a feeling that someone turning my shoulder inside out lol weird pins and needles if I lay on my side feels really cold shocks of pins and needles sciatica kicking in too ggrrrrr damn 3 wheel buggies gggrrr never again will I use one ,
