Neuropro and weight

Hi I have put over 2 stones on since starting Neuro Pro they get rid of my RLS (most of the time) but I'm now so conscious about my weight. If I came off them do you think I would lose weight?

Hi Polly l was on Clonazepam quickly followed by Gabapentin.  I took the Clonazepam for 6 weeks and the Gabapentin for 2 weeks. I did not do well on either. I was prescribed the Neupro patch but did not start them.

In that period l put on about 7 pounds in weight, not a lot some might think, but it was very unusual for me. I follow a healthy eating plan and walk, swim or use my power plate every day. I don't drink alcohol anymore and have eliminated all the sugar or sweetener possible from my diet. I am a great fan of juicing and do not eat processed food. So for me weight has never ever been an issue.

Those six or seven pounds piled on at the rate of about one pound per week, despite my being extra careful about food intake and excercise. I started to feel heavy and my cloths were getting tight. Since stopping both Meds l have lost about half the weight gain, but it has been harder than normal for me to shift it. Perhaps when we are not feeling good, we do less excercise and comfort eat, or simply consume more calories than we could possibly burn off. l also think these drugs slow you down and cause fluid retention.

Everyone is different and l can only relay my personal experience, but l would say that weight gain seems to be one of many side effects of these Meds.

I have had this debate with friends who say, so what if you get a little curvier, it's worth it if the RLS is tamed. I do see their point, but those extra pounds made me miserable, it's was not me and l could not live with getting bigger by the week. If you are becoming depressed by the weight gain, see your doctor and ask to discuss your other options.

Everyone should approach their side effects as intelligently as you are.

Weight gain is a definite problem. It is, however, something we can control. With us, everything is a trade off!
