I know when I stopped them it was cold turkey but that was only after a few months. You might get some answers here:

Good luck.

You need your doctor to prescribe you a strong painkiller to help you get off the Mirapex. It is not recommended to do it cold turkey as many have ended up in hospital doing it like that. Many find Tramadol very good to help with the withdrawals. Also what dose have you been taking? If it is high it is usually best to wean down slowly gradually increasing the painkiller as you decrease the Mirapex.Good luck Pipps x

I CUT OFF MIRAPEXIN AFTER TAKING 1.5 MG FOR 7 YEARS COLD TURKEY. I WAS IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND DID NOT FIND ANY SLEEP FOR 2 WEEKS. IT WAS ALL WORTH WHILE.. I AM FREE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS AND FOUND OUT THAT I WAS WRONGLY DIAGNOSED WITH PD. MEANWHILE I WENT THROUGH WITHDRAWAL FROM THE K-DOPA/LEVODOPA. I LOST 7 YEARS WITH SIDE-EFFECTS WHICH MADE ME BELIEVE THAT I WAS A PD PATIENT. I AM STILL UNDER SHOCK.

I was talking .125. 2x a day. the scrip said take as needed. Oct 2015 I dbled the dose as I was twitching before the next day. recently started having side effects, poor balance memory loss. I see now this is a mean drug. It sounds like if you have a job you cant get off it. Sounds like I need to find a neurologist and a lot of prayer time. Thanks for the response. rlwcw

If it helps, why did Doc tell you to stop taking ?

rlwcw profile image
rlwcw in reply to Redhots7

It was my idea because of the side effects. Doc said she would look at putting me on another med after I hot Mirapex out of my system. I have been doing a lot of reading and drugs for rls all have bad side effects. rlwcw

Well we all know medication has side afects,I don't know how you will get on without taking a tablet. You either take a tablet and get on with life or don't take anything and suffer and you will suffer because the lack of sleep is the first thing. Good luck

My doc called and said I am low on vit D. She thinks that may have something to do with.my side effects.

Great answer Beady :)

Definitely take a good dose of Vit D, take over 1200mg magnesium, calcium supplements and an amino acid called L-Tyrosine, all daily. Fixed my RLS, am now insomniac but without the discomfort, which is better than nothing ☺ and not on mirapex. Good luck!

in reply to Itchytwitchy

Well Itchy, you see how well alternatives can work.  I too get insomnia sometimes without RLS.  I will still take for insomnia the supplement I take for RLS and that is iron-bisglycinate, 25mg capsule, on an empty stomach for insomnia.  Best to be in bed within 45 minutes of taking.  I just drop wherever I am.  I've awakened on the living room floor in a stupor from the iron.  Good luck.

I'm going to give that a try!  Thanks for the tip :)

I have taken a lot of iron in my time, and it is not the iron that puts me into a "stupor". And, yes, I tried iron-bisglycinate for months and months. I am glad it works for YOU, but we just cannot EVER tell people with RLS that this will work for you for sure, because we simply do not know until the person tries it. And, like I have said, am glad it works for you, but it is not so with a lot of people. Wish it was that easy but it is not. Then we would not need all of the RLS support groups.

in reply to nightdancer

This is the first time you have mentioned taking iron bus-glycinate. Often you have talked about iron infusions. So I guess I don't believe you. You seem almost desperate to stop people from trying the iron.  Telling people they're going to get liver damage. It's all adults in the room Nightdancer. You can relax, no one is downing 50 pills in one shot. Speaking of 1000 mg of iron that's about what u were infused with  you're alive to tell about it.

And once again I must disagree with u. If you can get iron across the blood brain barrier ATThe right time it will help as many people with RLS as insulin helps diabetics.

in reply to

Its your right to disagree but its also our right to disagree.  Taking iron pills what ever type they are are not the answer for everyone.    The whole of this forum is now dedicated to taking iron pills, as if its going to magically make all our RLS disappear. It aint gonna happen. !    And you have basically called Nightdancer a liar on this forum.  I suggest you remove that comment.

in reply to

It will magically make everyone's RLS disappear if it's the  right kind taken at the right time. But like Cinderella at the Ball the magic will wear off.

Ii never called anyone a liar. That's your word. I said I don't believe that she has tried bis-glycinate, that it is another form of iron that she has tried and talked about so all I think is that she is mistaken. You 're putting words in my mouth.

in reply to

You said you do not believe her, that is saying she is lying in anyone's word's.

After 22 yrs, I am not mistaken or the least bit confused. Trust me.

This is not the first time I mentioned it. We have discussed this in length before, and I have said several times I have tried that form of iron, and to be fair, many kinds of iron plus infusions with the correct iron with no glucose. I feel no need to go thru all of that again. If I say I tried something or did something, I did it. If there is ONE thing I am NOT, is a liar.

I tried that before and there is no way to stop this medicine by yourself. I will never try that again the pain was so bad.

There are at least a dozen forms of iron. I truly believe that she is mistaken in the type of iron she tried. It was a looooong time ago now that she gave iron a shot by her own admission. It's hard to remember every thing you have ever tried let alone the chemical structure of that supplement.

in reply to

You cant say that.   You dont know what she has tried or not tried.  Its like me telling someone they havent taken a med they say they have.  !!

in reply to

I know what she's said on here. And she mentioned her failed iron infusions about 50 times but today is the first time for her failed bis- glycinate.  Plus no doctor, including DR. B recommends bis- glycinate. Doctors for the most part recommend ferrous sulfate or fumarate.  They believe that for the most part all irons are created equal and thus will recommend the most reasonable one. Unlike me, Nightdancer believes in dr. B and seemingly would try the type he recommends which sure isn't bis-glycinate or heme iron. Alternative practitioners maybe. You and Nightdancer don't strike me as the alternative type.

in reply to

Again you are assuming what people have or havent tried.
