Problem with Lyrica

I've been taking Lyrica (Pre gabalin) for a couple weeks and my feet are very swollen and I've gone from 133 to 146. Anyone else had that problem? Of course, I'm weaning myself off till I can figure out if that is the specific problem. Soupy

Hi Soupy, i havent tried Lyrica but i have tried Gapapentin in the past for a month and i put on weight in that time. Not sure about the swollen feet. I hope some one who is or had tried Lyrica can give you more info. But i would consult your doctor, before the office shuts down for Christmas.

I put on 14 lb in a month or two. Like Elisse can't comment on the feet, but it could be something else occurring at the same time so I would check it out with the GP just to be sure - better safe than sorry.

Soupy, I have been doing a bit of digging into Lyrica and in side effects it says rarely it can cause swelling of hands , legs and feet and should this occur to contact your doctor immediately. Dont want to worry you but best to inform your doctor today about what is happening.

Yes, as Pipps says, it is a rare side effect, but if you are swelling up like that and can time it to the Lyrica, best to contact your doctor right away. Lyrica did that to me and also Gabapentin did. For example, on the swelling. my doctor had started me on a new blood pressure med. My ankles swelled up, my eyes were almost swollen shut every morning. I did not think much of it, but as soon as I told her ( my doctor) took me off that BP med immediately. Like Pipps says, we do not want to worry you, but swelling is not a benign side effect and it always means something.

Soupy33now,

I take a whole host of drugs, one of which is gabapentin. I have had a lifetime up to 79 now, with the great problem of gaining weight or being hungry all the time. I was at 215 pounds for 30 years and four or 5 years ago lost 35 pounds, but it became almost impossible to keep the weight off when I started Gabapentin. I am currently at 190 pounds and creeping up. I try to drink at least 16 ounces of water with each meal and sip from a bottle in between. This is the only way I can stay almost stable.

My RLS is genetic. I know this because all my mother's sisters and herself had it from around 40 years old.

Lets hope for a permanent cure in 2016, or at least some research to tell us where the signals to hurt and move are coming from. The spinal cord, the brain stem, the frontal cortex??? could it be so hard for researchers to narrow it down?? Is it akin to Parkinson's?

We really need to know. 10% minimum of the world population has some form of the pain and the overpowering urge to move. Tell me, all you marketeers, how would you like to have a product you could be sure 10% of 6 billion people on earth would want and need???

I,mounting my two cents worth in my nephew did research into Parkinson,s disease for some years at the London Hospital and ironically developed Parkinson,s himself. He told me I was lucky to have RLS as it was allied with Parkinson,s.You know they also get RLS.I have primary due to my mama having had Lou Gerhig,s disease making us a trifecta.all in all I feel very lucky to have escaped their problems.

I am in the same oat as you. I have primary RLS treatable but never cured. I sometimes get so tired of the jumping and jerking even with 4 times in 24 hours I take a 2 mg ropinirole. I get immediate relief with a 5mg codine pill but that would quickly stop working if i did it more than occasionally.

the only real ay to diagnose Parkinsons's is autopsy. The separation between the upper brain and lower brain is connected be the Substancia negra and in parkinson's patients that is totally missing.

RLS is a brain disorder, but not even close to being parkinson's.

RLS is still pathologically an unknown, but the damm signal to move is generated somewhere, now let's find it and using the new noninvasive pinpoint ultrasound destroy that small section or find the pathway and block its path.

Soupy I take it also reluctantly I might add it does increase weight but I also have swollen red palms and feel dizzy and my head is fuzzy.I am seeing if it settles down as it is helping somewhat the RLS. In the meantime I have ordered a trial of the Relaxis pad and will report on it when I have given it a test run as t,were.
