As a "graduate "of all the various drugs prescribed for RLS, I started on Kratom today. Took 2 g at noon, when I would normally take Mirapex, .25mg. Repeated at 7:30 this evening, and with no relief in sight, added another g of that vile tasting mix. Now 4 hours later, and no results from the Kratom.
I have refrained from my normal medication, but feels like the kind of night when sleep is impossible.
So, my question to those of us who have taken, or currently take Kratom
1) did you taper off your other meds while introducing Kratom?
2) how soon did you get results?
3) What dosage works for you, when do you take it and what type do you use?
4) are you symptoms free or manageable?
Today I have taken 5 g which I think is quite a bit, and using red vein maeng da.
I would greatly appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you can offer.
Many thanks

I use only kratom to manage my RLS symptoms. I take one to two grams five or six times within a 24 hours period. It works very well for me, but I have never taken any prescription meds, so it may affect me differently. I do get breakthrough but then I take another dose, and usually have control within a half an hour.
The best way to take it, I think, is to put your dose in a little cup, add orange juice, and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. Kratom is not water soluble, but does dissolve in acid. It tastes okay then, I think, and I also think the dissolved kratom works more quickly. I usually make up a day's worth of doses and keep them in the refrigerator until I need them.
Sometimes I need significantly more, like when I'm on an airplane. I typically take two grams then every two hours to get through flights.
You may still have residue of your previous medicines in your system, so I'd be careful at first. Mixing medications can be chancy. For me it's been a very safe medication. I've used it for two and a half years, with no side effects at all, accept a little constipation, which I manage with extra magnesium.
I take Red Leaf Borneo. I've also taken Maeng Da which worked well but caused significant constipation for me. So I don't use it anymore. Sometimes I use a white or green leaf kratom in an effort to prevent a tolerance from developing. I use them more in the daytime and the red leaf one at night, since the red leaf one is supposed to be more sedating. To tell the truth, though, I'm not sure I can really tell a difference.
Good luck to you. This is such a lousy disease, isn't it.
I'm getting 90% relief using powdered kratom leaf. It's available on the internet at eleven cents per gram when bought in bulk ($110 per kilogram). My favorite strain is "Red Borneo", although I rotate through 7 different strains, hoping that that will help to avoid tolerance building up. I'm using 8 grams per dose, three times per day. I mix each dose in a blender with 8 ounces of milk and a packet of Carnation "Breakfast Essentials" (aka "Instant Breakfast") which is also a powder. This concoction is needed (for me) to make palatable the kratom which is about as dry as chalk powder. Also I mix into each dose, one capsule (25mg) of iron bisglycinate ("comfort iron"), although many of the good people here recommend that the iron capsule be taken on an empty stomach and certainly not with milk!
If not for the kratom, I would move to Oregon where assisted suicide is legal! (Partially kidding--not sure how much!)
