Hi Mary

I have a number of health conditions too. This forum is for RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Do you suffer with this? If so, how can we help you.

What kind of things do you do to try settling down restless in your legs

Hi Mary

Thank goodness my RLS is not too bad and is intermittent. So far I have not had to go down the road with any meds. When I am sitting down in the evening and the RLS starts, firstly I fidget and then I have to get up and walk around or out of the room and do something else. If my husband is there he always knows when the RLS kicks in, without me saying anything, because of my fidgeting and not being able to sit still.

When in bed, if I do not beat the RLS and get to sleep before it may start, then I have to get up and walk around. Usually that is enough and I can then sleep. May happen a couple of times a night, but not usually more than that. I realise I am very lucky and that is why I sympathise very much with anyone suffering with this condition.

What have you tried to do to settle your RLS?

Because I have a number of health problems I have a lot of medication which sometimes I think they rule each other out

sometimes and my body goes into overload its hard to work out which one of the problems is causing what and it gets me down

but the restless leggs is definitely that

Wow Mary I can see 4 antihistamines amongst your list and they are known for ramping up RLS for most sufferers.I do not obviously know why you are taking 4 antihistamine medications but I can tell you of 2 antihistamines that do not usually make RLS worse, they are Clarytin/Claritin and Allegra.Hopefully under your doctors supervision you will be able to change over.

Secondly the other med that stands out on your list is Amitriptylene .You are on 50mg and even the tiniest dose of Amitriptylene will send RLS symptoms sky high for the vast majority of us, For me it is top of my no no list alongside anti sickness meds. When an GP gave me Amitriptyline I was climbing the walls! So yes Mary as you suspected yourself at least 5 of your medications are working against you RLS wise.If you can swap your antihistamines and get off Amitriptyline your symptoms will dramatically improve or even go away i am 99% certain of that.Never stop any medication without medical supervision. This is good newx Mary as there is a good chance of your RLS improving if you get off those medications, good luck ...Pipps

Wow! You may just have said the magic word!

I wasn’t aware that antihistamines make RLS worse, I have to take it every day due to multiple allergies. I might try using a different type.

Following pippin2’s comments, I wanted to confirm that I joined this site because My RLS had suddenly got worse. I suspected Amitriptyline & people on here confirmed it. I spoke with my doctor who immediately changed my meds. Last night was my first night without Amitriptyline & although I still had problems, it was nowhere as bad as before. I’m going to try changing my antihistamine too, see if it helps.

I love this site!

Mary, you have also listed taking pramipexole and two doses. 20mg pramipexole and 10mg pramipexole. Are you sure that is right..? Please tell us those are wrong.

I think the 20mg and 10mg belong to the medication before the number and her pramipexole dose is 0.18, although the pramipexole is written twice (mistakenly maybe).

Ah right, i see now pipps. :)
