Yup but in my case its not true as I have had to take an iron supplement in later years and no adverse effect (affect?) on my RLS. Caffeine did used to cause my RLS to go haywire, now it doesn't..........what do we do as sufferers and what do Doctors do as those seeking to solve / deal with our aliments!?

RLS is troublesome no matter what side of the trench you stand on? Discuss in 300 words and turn in your papers by 6pm!!! hehehe

Hi Betty, if you visit rls-uk.org and click on About RLS and FAQ's there is a reply to the question, Is there a link between iron levels and RLS?

I hope this helps.

Yes there can be a link.Secondary restless legs can be caused by low iron /ferratin.Ask your doctor to test your ferratin iron , it needs to be over 70 for RLS sufferers , this is higher than what is considered normal .Not everyone improves ovce they get their levels up but some do.If your RLS is due to low iron it is called secondary RLS and will likely inprove once your levels are up.Most people have the genetic primary type of RLS likevme.Even though my Ferratin is 70 it foes not help my symptoms. So basically get your ferratin levels checked ,good luck

A helpful tip....when you take iron pills, take some kind of vitamin C at the same time. It greatly enhances the iron absorption,,,even a bite of an apple. !! Ironic that anaemia , that makes you so weak, stops you from resting...but it can and does....I had the experience myself, however, now I am a fully fledged (!) RLS sufferer with normal iron levels that are checked every year..

Good luck

There is a link. One thing to be aware of you can have good haemoglobin, (Red cell that carries oxygen and has big stores of Iron) and low Iron. Most Dr's just check the haemoglobin doing a Full Blood Count/Picture. You would need an Iron profile done as well to be sure.

I have seen restless legs linked to:

Low Iron

Low Potassium

Low Magnesium

ADHD

Aspartame

Alcohol

Drugs - both licit and illicit

Pregnancy

Hope it is due to low Iron as that can easily be rectified - good luck.

No never been told that. My ferritin levels are on the low side and I take daily iron supplements but my RLS has never improved. X
