Hi Beady, alot of people find the pain meds work better for them than the dopamine meds. Or even taking a combination of both can work better for some people. Tramadol is a good pain med to take for RLS, either on its own or in combination with another RLS med. Tramadol can cause augmentation for some folk, others can take it for years with no problems. Always stick to the dosage prescribed by your doctor for RLS.

Glad you feeling better beady!Codeine can cause constipation which is a problem I have with painkillers so maybe take some senna at night to help if it occurs x

Hi Pippins thanks for reply ,I know what codine does but do you think I could take pain killers instead of ropinorole it's just a question,I must be armed for Monday when I go docs x

Yes some people rake painkillers instead of the dopamine drugs. From what you have said over the last few weeks rooinerole has not helped you at all. When people come off the dopamine meds usually restless legs reacts by becoming very severe for a few weeks but whether that would happen to you when its never helped anyway I dont know. What about asking for mirapex or neupro patch which are other dopamine drugs? You could try codeine on its own and if that doesn't work at keast you will have them to try.You have more chance of getting mirapex than neupro patch as the patch is very expensive and I had to show I had tried all the tablets first.Dont you see your Neurologist next week though why dont you see what he/she says rather than your GP? X

Hi there, now I don't know what to do,I have a months supply of Gab but 7days codine ,shall I say nothing to doc but ask for more codine or shall I see if she will give me the patch ,I thought May be I could just try pain killers on own, shall I not phone her and wait until I go to nur which is 25th Sep ,hope this makes sence but then I am going to run out of codine ,hope you can work this one out ,a big thank you x

Beady, i cant say what you should do. But, please be careful with the codeine, it can be addictive. You could ask your doctor and ask for his advice first.

Beady3 I had augmentation with Ropinerole & then very severe side effects with Gabapentin so I decided to stop all drugs & use codeine.

It works very well for me especially as I don't take it every night. I usually have extra fruit, a homemade vege soup & lots more water to counteract the side effects. I do battle on the nights I don't have it but nothing as badly as being on the drugs.

Sadly Ropinerole worked brilliantly for 2 years with no side effects & then out the blue the augmentation started & became progressively worse.

I do hope you find some regime that suits your body & that your doctor understands & listens to you.

Thanks Annieapple, well I can't believe it two whole days without a twinge I am in a mess with my tabs because I am on all meds together but I feel the Rop wasn't working but still taking them I know you have to come of. Them steady ,pears and sweet corn work wonders for me. My Doc won't know what to do unless I tell her not looking forward to Monday. Well keep you posted, have a nice day.

20 years ago when I got relief from all night suffering the first time, was when I was given vicodin or tylonol 3 for something and got the first nights sleep I'd had in years. I took it the next night and the next, but had to keep increasing the dose until it just didn't work unless I was at a dangerous dose, so I went thru withdrawal and that wasn't real pretty, but I think I have been thru withdrawal 4 times from one drug or another. Let's face it, many drug addicts are taking the strong stuff just to get RLS relief and when they finally get on methadone, so they can be functional again they wish they'd had a Medico who would have just put them on methadone in the first place.

I now have a neurologist who will give me a small dose of 5mg at 5 PM and by 9 pm when my legs usually started, I am still calm. He won't give big doses because the state of IL USA are such idiots and always threaten our doctor with lic. revocation, so I take a small dose of neurontin and a small dose of requip along with the methadone and sleep 5 or 5 and a half hours, which is more than I have slept in 30 years. Unfortionately treatment is a balancing act and here in the USA treatment is a business. No doctor is interested in Cures, they just want treatment. They turn us chronically symptomatic patients into a life long annuity. They keep treating and we keep paying. They have a pact with the drug companies, the American Medical Assoc. and the U.S. Government. No cures, just treatment.

Be careful as codeine can make some people very constipated - hope you aren't one of the,!

All I take is co codamol. I won't take the dopamine drugs for various reasons. My doc is happy to prescribe them for me. Also I found the constipation settles down as your body gets used to them. Good luck at the docs
