Gabapentin: Hi gang just to tell you... - Restless Legs Syn...
Gabapentin
Hi Beady, I also take Gabapentin 300mgs 3 times a day (for neuropathy not RLS) and they did make me tired during the day at the start, however they don't now thankfully. Many of the meds I am on can cause drowsiness but I've found the longer I've been on them the drowsiness seems to lessen. Trying to sleep at night is bad enough at the best of times and much harder if I've had a nap during the day.
By the way if you are not getting any relief from your RLS there are many people on here with very good and useful advice. Gabapentin for example I believe can be given in higher doses when necessary, so if it's not helping enough now perhaps your GP can raise the dose. Someone on here once said what that higher dose was but I can't find it now sorry.
When I had RLS, I was on Tramadol 200mgs ( slow release) twice a day and the Gabapentin, it helped enormously at the time although I still had many nights walking around the house and garden
All the best, G

Hi again,
My GP is lovely but knew very little about RLS she actually prescribed Amitryptilline and a anti-histamine which made the RLS worse ! I think we all become experts in our own illnesses in the end. My friend has RLS and printed out the information from the link from this website (can't remember the exact link) but I'm sure someone on here will know - and took it to show her GP - she says her he was really interested and kept the info for use in their GP practice.
So go armed with all the info you have and don't let your your doctor fob you off !! all the best, Ger
My GP has been very open to information I provided him on RLS. He has referred me to a neurologist who had no clue what augmentation is. She is now referring me to another neurologist! So far the wonderful Dr. B has been the most helpful of all the professional help I have sought. He will respond to your email quickly and thoroughly.
