Have read quite a few times on here about checking ferritin levels, I am going to the doctors today and wonder if it's worth asking to get mine checked?
Ferritin levels?: Have read quite a few... - Restless Legs Syn...
Ferritin levels?
Yes, its always worth getting done, it needs to read 70-100 for people who have RLS. Below that level and you MIGHT benefit from iron pills from your doctor. I say might cause taking iron pills doesnt work for everyone.
The swedish goverment medical advisers ( do not know what to call them in english) says that if a RLS-patient has below 50 in ferritin level we shall have iron injections, pills does not help in that levels. And even over 50 it can be really hard to rise the ferritin levels with pills.
Yes I would do that ask them everything you want to know as I said before
I've recently had mine checked and they were v low so I'm now trying to eat more red meat (with vit C such as orange juice to help absorption of iron) and take the ferrous gluconate tablets he gave me. (these are not the same as the iron tablets in the shops). The doctor says that red meat is the best way to get iron into the system and the redder the better! It takes several months for the ferritin levels to be restored. It's a simple blood test so it is very easy.Good luck!
That is one good doctor you have there. Redder is better. Much more digestible that way. Probably way too early to tell but how do you feel on new diet?
Sweetheart, you should always be getting your blood labs as we never know when something is going on with our liver, kidneys and all the other things they check for. I'd go for it. Good luck at the doctors. xxx Mitzi
