if death is the ULTIMATE cure for all of life's ills, why do we work so hard to prolong life?

Hi Roneo, hope you're ok?

now there is a statement which could open up a whole theological debate :) none of us really know if death is a cure as we don't know what comes after but I like to think the reason for living is to give love, empathy and kindness to our fellow inhabitants. Sometimes it can seem like a pointless task but worth it when it really makes the difference :)

I hope that by quitting smoking I have longer to try to make that difference. sending hugs x

Thanks LilyMay. Forgive the morose post. The last few days have been absolute downers. I'm back at the "what's the point" state of mind. Fortunately it hasn't resulted in a relapse. I'm just going to have to grind it out. I know it'll turn around, I hope starting tomorrow.

I'm sure it will turn around quickly. It's ok to feel sad and down from time to time and much as it's awful at the time it makes us appreciate the happier times more. And well done for sticking with your quit, it's so easy to cave in and you have done marvelously not to :)

Hi Roneo, you certainly got us all thinking. As you know I am on my second battle with cancer. So why fight to live ? I am a fighter and deep down I am not ready to give in. If I end up in lots of pain, more than I have now I may change my mind. I have so much love to give to friends and family , and so much love to receive.

Why let that little white stick come out victorious. Done nobody any favours.

You take care. xxxxxxx

Hi Roneo, hey...2 months already :) :)

You need to get out and get the fresh air to try and pick yourself up..mind you, the sun is starting to go down :D :D

Interesting statement.. My sister n law just got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this week and was to have her pancreas removed next week. Late last night she was told that her tumors are inoperable and she has only weeks to live. Sad - is an understatement for this lady, as she losing her life and has never been a smoker or drinker :( :( and wont see her 57th birthday and grandchild that is due later this year.

Life can be cruel, but you truly have to make the most of what you have as it can be ripped out from underneath you in a heartbeat.

I'm so sorry about your sister in law Lin, it's so true that you have to make the most of every moment as none of us know what is round the corner.

life can be so cruel with no rational reason for the way things happen and all we can do is make the time we have beautiful for everyone in our lives x

hiya Ron, I reckon we work so hard to prolong life as it's the survival instinct inherent in us all. That's a good thing and certainly worth fighting for. Ron you are most definitely worth fighting forπŸ‘ and if ya didn't live soooo flippin far away, I would knock your door down to tell you that😳 Instead I'm sending you a big boost of oxytocinπŸ’‹πŸ’‹πŸ’‹to make ya realise how much we love youπŸ’˜ hang in there buddy, it will get better and I'm doing the bum wiggle dance for you right nowπŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜

To the OP... If you have a pet or child you can answer that question more easily. You are out for the experience of the next day. The seeking of novel experiences fuels the desire to continue forward. Dying ends the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. So naturally one seeks to gain self improvement through knowledge and determination. If you feel sick that day or week your mind clings to the chance of an obtainable relief in the near future with the intent of furthering one's experiences. Everyone chooses not to commit suicide because they want to know what lies down the road for them. You could say curiosity conquers, what may be, a temporary ailment. I do not know if that's the answer you're looking for, but it's the best my mind can do.

When I feel like that I try to get out and walk in the green and the trees. Its hard to bust out of your own head sometimes, but that's what you have to do. I make myself stop and look real close at something, the leaves, the fern coming up and unfurling, insects and critters on the move, the sky, the clouds, anything that's there all around me, and there's plenty, its teaming with life and movement, precious tiny moments. I make myself stop going round my own churning thoughts, and manage it for a moment. Of course in no time you can find yourself back in there! You have to make yourself break out, get back in the outside. Sometimes mulling is definitely best resisted, it doesn't help! Its a waste of precious time.

Hope you're feeling a lot better today, Roneo, and manage to break out and give life a good go :)

Hi Roneo,

I guess because while we're on earth alive and kicking, we may as well spoil our selves with good health mentally and physically...... Love your thoughts🌹
