I have Parkinson Disease and have been having trouble speaking. My doctor recommended Lee Silverman Voice Training therapy. Are any in IL?

Hi Eileen9, the Lee Silverman course is very effective for some people and definitely worth trying if your doctor recommends it, if he has recommended it he should be able to direct you to the nearest course through your speech and language therapist. The course is quite intense so often is too exhausting for people living with PSP but I see you have PD. Talk to your speech and language therapist.

My wife with PSP took the Lee Silverman course. You can get it in video form or have it administered through any local speach specialist/theropist. Didn't help much with my wife but everyone is different. I think if you put in the time daily to do the recommended drills it can work. Give it a try, the DVD isn't that expensive.

I might also add that with PSP the brain doesn't always click in and do what it should. You can remind a PSP patient of something but that doesn't mean they will remember next time. You can say "Speak louder please" over and over but they often don't remember to do it every time they speak.
