My mother in law has recently been diagnos... - PSP Association
My mother in law has recently been diagnosed with CBD and is having some problems with writing. Can anyone recommend any specialist pens?
Yes, I have a friend with arthritis who uses a Y shaped pen that helps her hold the pen. My husband quickly lost the ability to write because it became so small, no one could read or decipher what he wrote.
hi daisy girl well mate I cant help you there but even if I did have a specialized pen I would want a decent magic wand as well to make it write by itself as I am in the unfortunate position of not being able to write \\ in fact when i do write something down I think to myself I will understand it but thats not the case
because it is so garbled a message that even I cannot decipher it
so I guess what I am saying is would she be able to write any better if she had a specialized pen I would hope so mate and I used to do comedy magic and I cant make anything work for me except this computer which i can type my feelings out because if I had to write a letter you would think it was a nut case writing it\\\\ anyway I wish you the best for your mother in law mate I hope she can find something that will give her an outlet like I have with this computer for expressing my self my speech is not crash hot either it it sounds ok to me\\\\\ its just other people who have the trouble with it see yer peter jones queensland Australia take care

Dear Daisy Girl,
My husband seemed to lose interest in writing, his words become very small. and when he wrote on a birthday card he would miss out out words and his spelling become poor. But that didn't stop me looking. I worked for a stationery wholesaler and printing company and our daughter has dysgraphia (and dyslexia) so I had a large array of samples for John to use and try. I think the best seemed to be the gel pens and 4B lead pencils and card to write on. Thicker pens and pencils and pencil grips and lined paper that our daughter used were too hard for John to use.
Overall - What was of the best value was a computer for John to use with software to suggest words (to reduce number of keystrokes required) and set on 16 pt to read, with the monitor set high on a desk and a 'big keyboard with large letters (Sourced by OT at the Independent Living Centre). Initially we purchased a laptop however the keypad was too difficult for him to read. If I was starting over - and with the new technology around John may have been more interested in touch screens which now seem to come way down in price.

In PSP and CBD there is Micronesia symptom where handwriting keeps getting smaller and smaller and smaller until unreadable. I took a good sample of my wife's signature to a office supply store (one before PSP) and had a stamp of her signature made (black ink!) I use,it on anything that requires her signature and it's never been questioned by a bank or anyone. Get ready, you'll need it at some point. Also get a power of attny if you don't already have one. We are here for you. Jimbo
Hi everyone, thank you so much for your replies. My mother in law is very early stages so I know things will get worse but I've ordered her a y shaped pen to try and help for now. Thanks for all your great advice.
