Hi there
It could be that you are experiencing a cough due to irritation occurring in your throat due to saliva accumulating and weakening of the swallowing reflex. If this is the case it is adviseable to see a speech and language therapist for advise on safe swallowing techniques. It would also be wise to get your GP to listen to your chest to make sure you dont have a chest infection. Coughing and choking particularly when eating can be an irritating result of PSP.
Spondylitis itself is not always a result of PSP but neck and shoulder pain can become a problem with PSP, causing refered pain and stiffness in the upper arms and back of head. If this is the case please mention it to your GP who may prescribe analgesics for the pain and possibly muscle relaxants to relieve any tightness that may be causing the problem.
Heat pads and gentle massage may also help relieve some of the symptoms too.
I do not have any swallowing problem so far.I am going every day to physiotherapist I am giving every day message and heat pad
thans for your answer
Hello - the closing of the eyes is due to PSP. It is the weakening of the eye muscles - in fact, my father had to have his bottom lids lazered because they rolled into his eye.
Thank you Dillera
Blepharospasm or closing of the eyelids is common in Parkinson's disease. Sometimes it is possible to have Botulinum toxin injections. I don't know if this is possible with PSP, It might be worth asking your specialist doctor or nurse.
