Has anyone any experience with Speakunique, please?

My wife has just banked her voice and is waiting for the PSPA funding.

On the Speakunique website it suggests some apps that can be used and would like to hear of other people’s experience.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,I'm happy to hear that your wife has done the voice banking.

My husband did voice banking in 2022, nearly a year after his PSP diagnosis. His voice was already affected a lot by PSP and needed to be "repaired" - I was quite impressed with the results.

He's had the speak unique app installed on an Android phone, and later on a larger Android tablet.

I appreciate the app because it is good to hear his voice.

Unfortunately, when he started using speak unique he already had issues with his motor skills so using the app and typing the words was always difficult, quite often he would accidentally lock the phone while trying to have a conversation, or spend hours trying to get the sentences typed correctly.

At a later stage, he could get quite obsessed with certain themes and spend the whole day preparing something he would then say repeatedly for hours - often quite inappropriate...

As PSP has progressed, we have continued to use speech therapy exercises and LSVT LOUD training to keep hos natural voice going, with the SpeakUnique app remaining just a fallback for when he just cannot make himself heard.

So - while it's been a mixed blessing, I'm happy that he's done the voice banking and I still think it is something we can continue to use even when others (like me) will have to set up fixed phrases for him to choose & use.

I hope your wife finds it useful to be able to continue to communicate in her own voice for as long as possible. 🌻🫂

Thanks you for your reply. It is much as I suspected.

I already have to type most of my wife’s messages. I also didn’t think the ’repaired’ voice as god as expected, or maybe as I hoped. However, as you say, it’s better than nothing.

HELLO PSPUSER, ! am M, 82, diag PSP 6 yrs ago and jump onto any opps - like voice bank work two? yrs ago. Quite enjoyed doing it! No specific help so far as my voice is still shouting fit , but its another boxed ticked and may come in very useful some day.

What I need is a used 'rollator' as my wheels keep wearing out, and too costly to continue replacing. I am just under 6 ft. Thanks for any offers? TimbowPSP

HiI banked my voice just over a year now and I am pleased with the results. To be honest with you, although I use speech unique as my speech is badly affected,, the volume is quite low on my android phone so I tend to pass my phone to the person who I am communicating with
