Does anyone know what the blood test is called that, I have heard, you can get to check the potential for getting PSP/Parkinson's? Mum has PSP, her brother has Parkinson's and their sister has Benign Essential Tremors so it seems like it runs in the family. My sister and I would be keen to get checked. Many thanks

To the best of my knowledge, there are no blood tests for PSP. I'm not sure about Parkinson's. There is research on finding an effective diagnostic tool for PSP. The disease is sporadic and not considered genetic, however, it's been to be familial in less than5% of clinically diagnosed cases.

You might check with CurePSP.org to see if there are any new developments (they fund a lot of research). But at this point I don’t believe there’s anything in play.

we have Parkinson’s and now PSP in our family and we’re told about a blood test to test for a faulty gene which would indicate if we may get PSP in the future. It wasn’t a definitive test and Mum who has PSP had to be tested first. Then myself and my sister. There was talk of counselling as no treatment as we all know for PSP. Anyway it all got very confusing and it didn’t happen. Sorry not to have more info.
