Hello Everyone,

Just wondered if anyone else’s loved one suffer from Hallucinations as part of their PSP symptoms? My father in law has been having them for some time now. We thought it was a certain medication so the doctor took him off it but they have continued. Any thoughts or advice?

Many thanks in advance

It is my understanding that hallucinations can be a part of PSP... as well as a side effect of some medications. Mom only had one event which l thought was a hallucination. There is so much we don't know about our brains. Sending hugs... Granni B

My Jackie has MSA which has many similarities to PSP and she has frequent hallucinations, mainly about her mother or sister being in the house. We were given some very good advice by our MSA specialist nurse - to the sufferer they are real and so don’t challenge them outright but gently reassure that this or that couldn’t have taken place and that mum or sister (for example) are happy at home.

I rather fancy hallucinating myself sometimes…maybe someone may arrive to do that next batch of chores!!

Take care, Ian

My Mum had intermittent hallucinations and periods of confusion, a bit like Ian has experienced with his wife and like him found the best way was to reassure, certainly not challenge. It's not an easy thing to deal with and I did struggle at first but then like so many things with PSP it becomes almost normal and you just deal with it.

HelloMy husband suffered hallucinations, both audial and visual. We successfully used Zyprexa to treat them. They can be scary.

UTIs can create hallucinations - something worth looking into, next to meds.

Hi, My husband (CBD) suffered severe hallucinations when he was on levadopa meds. The worst was with a patch. He saw things and people all the time. It was pretty difficult. And as someone above mentioned, you just need to go along with what they tell. you. Otherwise, they get mixed up.Since I took him off all the medications, he has not had any hallucinations.

Most meds for Parkinson's provide little or no help to the CBD patient. I think it is the same for PSPs.

Hope this helps.
