Uses

This medication is used to treat certain mental/mood conditions (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, sudden episodes of mania or depression associated with bipolar disorder). Quetiapine is known as an anti-psychotic drug (atypical type). It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

This medication can decrease hallucinations and improve your concentration. It helps you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less nervous, and take a more active part in everyday life. It may also improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level. Quetiapine can help prevent severe mood swings or decrease how often mood swings occur.

We recently went through this and I really wasn’t sure at times. It is quite sedating and at times even fairly high dowsed didn’t seem to work and then they did. Eventually we reduced then dosage. My husband takes 25mg at bed time. It’s helped to keep him calmer though it didn’t seem to get rid of the hallucinations. He stopped acting the hallucinations out which is good because those must have been worse and let to extreme agitation. The last couple of day’s he’s reported no hallucinations. We’ve been on a roller coaster with this for a few months, so I’m never sure . He also decreased another med ( amantadine) as per neurologist s. I’ve recently increased that a bit because my husbands speech is the worst it’s been and I want to see if the amantadine which can cause hallucinations( at any time) was helping in other areas. It’s a delicate balance. The doctors only experiment as well. The PSPbrain chemistry is altered and how it responds to drugs isn’t me either same as in a “normal” brain. One neurologist did blame the Seroquel (quitipine) and Amantadine both for the hallucinations. I know that the hallucinations began before the quitipine. Good luck.

Hi there, with any medication there are side effects some more than others, yes Qutipin25 does cause hallucinations , but it can cause seizures and other things, I know it rebalances dopamine to improve thinking and it does at times help them sleep better, but causing hullucination, is not good either. Good luck. Nettie

Sorry, I haven’t heard of this particular drug but I know that everything is trial and error. I try to only introduce one new thing at a time and give it three weeks to get used to being in the system before stopping the treatment. Unless of course it’s simply not tolerable with stomach issues and whatnot. I wouldn’t reduce one thing and start a new drug at the same time because it makes it difficult to know which one helps and which one doesn’t. It can sometimes take months before finding the perfect cocktail. I wish you the best of luck in getting this sorted.
