Hi Gill, have not heard of mucuna beans, will have to look them up.

My hubby was given dopamine when it was considered he might have Parkinsons disease. This is generally caused by loss of dopamine. Hubby was given 2 different meds at different times, but neither helped his condition or made him feel any better. He was finally diagnosed with CBD.

Sometimes the Parkinsons meds help for a short time. Think as a general rule, they don't do much at all.

Have you been able to find a neurologist who has helped you?

Hope you are managing ok under lockdown situation.

Hugs

Use key word....mucuna, or mucuna prurient, and tons of posts on this topic will pop up.

PROGRESSIVE SUPRANUCLEAR PALSY is a brain disease in the category of “neurodegenerative” diseases along with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s diseases. In PSP, cells in some areas of the brain accumulate clumps of a protein called “tau”and gradually die off. Those cells control walking, balance, mobility, vision, speech, swallowing, sleep and behavior.

This paragraph was from here:

Hi pthalo

Greetings to you down under and thank you letting us have sunshine up here for a while. :)

Did you ever get a clear diagnosis?

How are you getting on?

My understanding is that dopamine medications are ineffective with PSP and CBD to the degree that if there is a fairly good diagnosis of PSP/CBD they are never prescribed in the UK.

Another perspective says that if dopamine meds. do help then the illness is most likely not PSP/CBD. This was the information given us by our Neurologist at Queens Square London. We were fortunate in getting one of the top specialists in this field and Parkinson's.

I am curious that one might try a 'food' as a medication when there are very well developed medications for dopamine issues. Though having said that Canabis is supposed to help with Parkinon's, but as far as can be seen not so much with PSP / CBD where CBD oil seems preferable, but we never found that to helpful.

I'm aware that there is a stance where folk believe a natural remedy is preferred and I respect that. Having said that PSP/CBD, Parkinson's and the like are full on major diseases and, despite my being into non meat diets, wholefoods and organic foods etc, I would not rely on a food/herbal treatment over any well tested and tried medication in these cases.

But that's me.

And, alas, there are still no treatments available to cure, halt, or slow the progress of PSP and CBD. Yes, I and many others here have tried everything from snake oil to whatever showed any hope of helping. No-one, that I know of has had any joy. But, that does not mean folk shouldn't try.

Wishing you the best

Warmly

Kevin
