Husband has just started grinding his teeth at night in his sleep. I am able to wake him and he'll stop but doesn't remember . Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution? I know there are mouthpieces available but I'm worried that would be a choking risk. He says his jaw is some sore in the morning when he wakes up. I'm hoping it's not a precursor to his jaw locking.
Thanks!

I kind of suspect this isn't directly related to PSP/CBD since lots of people grind their teeth at night. Suggest you take your husband to see a dentist who can fit him for a bruxism device. You can discuss the risk of choking with the dentist. (I don't see how someone would choke on it but am uneducated regarding this.)
I wear a "nite guard" (I do not suffer from a nuerological disease except for the bruxism). My son died of PSP and he had a niteguard.
When you grind or your jaw bears down the nightguard protects the teeth. I have worn mine for over 50 years. It fits over the teeth (bottom or top). My son was not use to his (came about a year or two after PSP symptoms) and so he seldom would wear it, but when he did he had a better night sleep and his jaw did not ache.
They are EXPENSIVE and in the USA dental insurance does NOT cover it.
My husband was recommended to get a guard at his last dental appointment and I was wondering the same thing. The dentist said he must be grinding his teeth at night, although I don’t know how as every time I see him he’s sleeping with his mouth wide open. I was concerned about the saliva build up in his mouth. I have a guard but due to my own allergies/mucus it bothers me to wear mine the majority of the time. That’s what I’m worried about with him—so we haven’t gotten one yet. Let me know how it goes.
I have just started wearing a 'bite guard' at night as they call it in the UK (enjoysalud above explains it well). Although I don't like to wear it, it doesn't give me extra salivation or issues, hence I imagine they'd be safe for someone with PSP. Consult both enurologist and dentist forst, but it may be a positive way forward. best wishes.
Hi, Sorry for the late response. My hubby with CBD used to grind his teeth a lot. He has a night guard but refuses to wear it. Finally, after resolving some pain issues and agitation with medication, the teeth grinding seems to have stopped. Fingers crossed that this will continue.
