Hi has anybody managed to get chc funding, my mother is in the late stages of Psp and also has a suspected cancer seen on a scan but no biopsy’s taken due to her condition. Have now applied twice, and twice turned down.

Hi we don't have it but have asked the social worker whether we should be getting it, I very much doubt we will get it. How bad does someone have to be for goodness sake!

On the second attempt we had to show power of atourney documents and proof of id, and for what they still refused it.

Hi Escada29

Don't ask the Social Worker - get the GP to do a referral. Most social workers are not trained in CHC and don't understand it.

And then, please do you preparation for the assessments. It makes a huge difference.

Best you you both

Warmly

Kevin

I saw a comment at the weekend which said how it varies according to where you live. Not right.

I was told it’s a postcode lottery.

Yes. Its difficult everywhere now but sounds almost impossible in some places. Where are you ?

We are in Surrey.

It sure is. Here in Shropshire I think you literally have to be dead before they may consider it. Same as you applied twice and refused. No one in health professionals seems to want to help support it either, all say you won't get it.

Hi Kay

How miserable.

Welcome to the site though. :)

You sound as if you are an experienced carer.

First off you can seek CHC and fail more than three times - there is not limit - legally they cannot limit it.

Getting CHC is often struggle. Knowing how they assess is not difficult and it makes a huge difference. You can even argue the scoring as it takes place. Its not rocket science, honestly.

Have a look at this thread as a starter:

If you need help and advice please just come back here. Folk here will help you.

Have a look and come back with you thoughts if you wish.

Best to you both

Kevin

Thankyou Kevin, I don’t understand it because mum scored high on most sections.

Hi Kay

Can I suggest you telephone The Beacon. It's NHS, but it's an arms length advocacy service to assist people to appeal and to give advice. You get an hour free and you can use that hour in a number of shorter calls.

It sounds to me as if your CCG may not be being lawful in their decision.

Do come back here too.
