Hi there Althea ! Seems to me that the sleep apnea connection ( even though very low oxygen levels certainly aren't healthy and have been shown to contribute to or cause very real health risks ) , is not a causative factor in PSP. An awful lot of people have sleep apnea , which thankfully can be treated ! If those same people were also developing PSP , I think that someone would've made a connection by now. It will certainly be a great day when a breakthrough occurs related to the cause(s) and treatment for PSP !
What does your dr say.... did he have this before PSP? Again with B he had a moment in PSP that he really started snoring. I would close his mouth while sleeping and this relieved the severe snoring once he got into a deeper sleep, I guess, he stopped snoring anyway.

Hi Althea
My husband clearly had sleep apnoea for years before PSP diagnosed. He was investigated for this at the same time as neurological investigations for PSP. He usesnight time CPAPwhich makes a huge difference to the nightmares he used to suffer.
I am not aware of any link between sleep apnea and PSP.

My mum has had sleep apnea for years and uses a cpap. She had it for several years before her random falls led to the PSP diagnosis a few years ago. She also has ulcerative colitis which I have also seen people question as having a link to PSP. Hopefully one day they will know, and maybe be able to predict or find predictors ahead of the illness starting saving others going through this. My Mum is taking part in one of the research trials that are trying to learn more about how the condition affects the brain and even though it means extra trips to hospital she is pleased to do something that might help.

My husband had really severe sleep apnea for years before he developed cbd. I asked the neurologist who diagnosed him with cbd whether it could be a factor but he said no. However now more and more research is being published which connects sleep disorders with alzheimers and other neurodegenerative diseases so I am absolutely convinced that there is some connection. Maybe it puts the brain under stress so it can't repair itself when some process like cbd begins. Who knows! It's great that people are prepared to take part in research to help find out.
