Does anyone have any advice regarding school and allowing TA's to be trained to do CIC? There's currently 3 TA's trained and the school nurse and they're proposing to train yet another TA up, I am totally sick off arguing every year they want to train a new person, my child is 10 and severely autistic as well as spina bifida, the urology sisters at the hospital say 4 is more than enough no more - any advice???

I'm sorry your child is living with these conditions but you are on a site for folk living with PSP, a life limiting degenerative brain disorder. At the top of this page is a box that's labelled MY Communities. Click on the down arrow and then on browse Communities. I'm sure there will be one that can help you. However, I used to line manage TAs in an academy. They never had to do CIC training as no students had catheters but several students had other needs so TAs were trained appropriately. Not all the TAs would get the training. The TAs who worked with the children the most, plus a couple of others in case they were absent from school. I found if a TA only worked with a student occasionally, they would forget the procedures learnt if not using them regularly. With something very personal, the fewer TAs requiring to do procedures, the better for the child, as long as there is always someone available.
Hi Jill, lovely to hear from you. How are you doing? I'm OK but missing Colin, especially when making decisions about house repairs. I've had to call in a lot of workmen lately, not something we have had to do much.
