My husband had a stroke and heart attack and was advised to quit smoking 5 years ago. Instead he upped his nicotine and after taking several different meds for breathing he is now unable to walk short distances and gasp for breath between his meds. If he is in the end stage, what's the point, please forgive me, I don't mean to be harsh, but really, why not let him smoke?

Yes, I agree .........if he is getting pleasure from smoking that may give him a reason to live.

It may well be that his life will be shorter but for some smoking is very hard to give up.

But I really do sympathize with your worries. You are in an impossible position, I think. I tried to fend off the end stage as long as I could. Giving up hope and caring is so hard. Really, Curliegurlie, how are YOU?

When my husband was first diagnosed, one of the first things the neurologist said was not to give up smoking or drinking.

He has cut both down, but that is by his choice.

Take care of yourself
