Battery Powered Wheelchair
Cool....shopping is the hardest! wheelchair has a basket and as it gets filled, it gets harder to push!!!!
Hope you saw the photo. I couldn't put it on with the reply. I had to sign into the site and then put it on. x
Yes I do see the chair and again I like it. The one we use is one that soemone gave us. It is a transport chair thus does not have large side wheels for the patient to steer. But since B cannot see where he is going, I don't think we are missing anything. B is still walking in the house with me and the walker as escorts. I was reading in another site how the dad wa getting very uncomfortable having to sit in a wheelchair for long periods. Does the patient have to sit in this for long pds of time? and what do you use to make it more comfy?
AVB
We only use it when we go out. It has small wheels, not big ones, like the one on the brochure. Inside our home, B.has one with big wheels that he can steer. It was lent to us. If we are staying in, he has a recliner chair. He cannot walk without assistance and then only a few steps. He had a knee replacement that went wrong and he has arthritis in his other knee. X
Oh the knee bones! That and the elbows are the only things my B has complained about. and even then its few and far between. I am sure that it won't be more than a year or so before he will need a chair to go to and fro. Some might think it hard on B to keep making him walk but I say do what you can do till you can't do !
then, get a nice option ie wheel chair!

AVB, you are SOOOOO right! Do NOT put B into a chair until you absolutely have to. S's son was having a go at me for years, saying S should be in a wheelchair. Don't think these people realise, the problems that come with chairs. First thing that goes, is the ability to transfer, then you really are up the creek with no paddle!!! This is my battle at the moment. The last thing in this world I want to do, is start using hoists. S will NOT trust me, I know he won't! So it will end in tears. (Like everything else with this evil disease!!!)
Lots of love

I agree, keep them moving while they can. My husband is in a wheelchair because he had a knee replacement that got an infection and he needed two more operations on the same knee. The other knee has very bad arthritis, but they will not operate in case he gets another infection. I do make him transfer. Chair to car, chair to bed etc. but the sound from his knee is so excruciating sometimes, I wonder if I am doing the right thing. X
Am awaiting delivery of my powered wheelchair. Hubby was measured for the chair itself yesterday so its a waiting game now. I cannot get him out unless in the car as there is an incline to the front door of our accommodation (bit silly really when it is over 55 accommodation) and several people struggle. I am rather short and don't have the stomach muscles to use an ordinary wheelchair and was over the moon to pass the assessment to get this equipment, hopefully can get out more, I am fed up with these four walls for the majority of time - I am on my own looking after him except for 4 hours off on a Friday.
Yes, we were a bit home bound. I had a wooden ramp made at the front door and one linking the garage to the house. A relative made them for me but a joiner could do it. Officially, I think they have to be certain lengths, but the one in our garage is very short but serves the purpose. Hope the chair works out well. If not, keep on at the authorities until you get what you need. Good luck! X
I totally agree. My son bought the same power pack for my husband's wheelchair, after we arrived home from the wheel chair services and I was unable to push the new heavy wheelchair up the slope outside our house.
We have been using for going on a year now......fantastic! Could not manage without the power pack can go anywhere now!
