I'm booked to have a CT scan followed by a PET scan. Can anyone tell me what am I likely to find out from these scans?

CT scan and PET scan
Sorry, no. Are they trying to nail down a diagnosis? It was an MRI that confirmed psp for my guy. I wish I could help, but I do hope you have good news from the tests. Hang in there. Easterncedar
Like Easterncedar, an MRI scan confirmed PSP in P, after 18 months of varying diagnoses. He was due to have a CT scan after the MRI but the radiologist said it was unnecessary ( so why did the consultant ask for it ?)
Hope it goes well.
Well they did find that Aunt Bev has had several mini strokes in her brain sorry not much help they told me to start giving her baby asprin thats the most I understood.

PET scan will show how the brain tissue is operating and where blood flow and activity are but usually used for cancer diagnosis, doubtful for PSP I would have thought. A CT or CAT scan uses X-rays to show structure of brain again more of a cancer tool. MRI scans use magnetic resonance to image the brain, less dangerous (not X-ray) and quicker than a CAT scan. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies. I've already had aMRI scan so it'll be interesting to know what they find out!
My husband had a scan which confirmed PSP. Before that, they had diagnosed Parkinson's Disease. I kept asking if it was PSP, as I had read an article about it, but they said that he would be deteriorating at a faster pace if it had been. The scan showed the images of a, "Humming bird" and "Mickey Mouse Ears" in the brain. Apparently these are indicative of PSP. hope this has been of some use.
Thanks for that Robbo1. I shall ask my neurologist when I see him whether I have the Hummingbird syndrome!
