My father has been diagnosed with CBD, he can no longer walk. Does anyone know what stage he is at in this illness?

My dad has CBD too. It's hard to know but I think he may have had it for 6 or 7 years and he stopped being able to walk last year, so maybe after 5 or 6 years. From the little I have read, it seems to be common for the diagnosis to be 5 to 10 years overall but that may depend on other things like secondary infections and swallowing problems, which worry me.

Hope you are doing as well as you can be, Plum.

Dolly, My wife passed from PSP after six years. Here are my thoughts on "stages". They don't matter. Why? Because you can die in stage one and never reach another stage. You can have a bad fall and die. You can get aspiration pneumonia and die. You can die from a severe UTI. There are just so many things that can take your father before what they call "stage 4". My wife and I didn't worry about stages, how long she'd live, what symptoms were coming next, etc. etc. Why? Because you can't control these diseases. They are in control, for the most part. You can just do your best with the knowledge you can get. In my mind worrying about "stages" etc. is a waste of time that could be spent on much more productive things, like love. My Sharyn and I lived in each day not looking backward or forward. Once diagnosed we really didn't spend much time discussing the disease at all. Sounds strange but that's the path we selected and it worked for us. Try to enjoy the days you have left regardless of the "stage". Also, these diseases are not a one-size-fits-all type disease. Each patient is different in some way from another. Jimbo

Hi jimbo I am a bit confused reg my dads medication, the doc going 2 increase his dose for anxiety, he is 2 be put on 150ml. Dad just seems distant enough is this the cbd or the effect of medication.

Medications can cause reactions in some people. Hard to say if this is the case with your dad. It is the neurologist or the regular doctor that has him on medication for anxiety? From what I've read apathy is more of an issue than anxiety with these brain diseases. Perhaps someone else can tell us about anxiety in PSP, CBD, MSA diseases. You could ask the doctor about decreasing the med to see what happens. My general opinion is that doctors sometimes tend to overmedicate patients. Just my opinion though and I'm no doctor.

My husband was capable of walking up to 5 days before he died of CBD. He suddenly woke up on a Wednesday and couldn't walk or even sit up without help. He had attended day care the previous day in his wheelchair but still in attendance and alert. He had aspiration pneumonia for the umpteenth and final time.
