Yes my wife had this problem and it was solved with Botox injection every 3 months to bring her head to a normal position. This was a problem that lasted for 3 years but the Botox made her life much better until her passing away last April. Good luck

You can wish me good luck and a good run as I am running the London Marathon as a sponsor for PSP Association so if your in London on the 13th of April come and cheer the other runners on to the finish.

My dad is the same,he can only look up,I can't understand how Botox would help.

The basic problem is the the muscle contract at both the head and the neck where the muscle attach the Botox is injected into both the head and the lower neck areas of the muscle this relaxes the muscle and the contraction is eliminated for a period of about 3 to 4 months. This should be done by a Doctor that have a lot of experience in the procedure.

Robin,we did try botox without results other than more choking,I,ii ask Richard

The Botox treatment did not result in choking with June just having her head in the proper position. If the Botox is too aggressive then it may cause some choking the amount that was used in June's condition was 6 units per treatment the first time Botox was used the Doctor did not have a great deal of experience and followed the manual which resulted in too much Botox and cause June's head to rest on her neck once we found a Doctor that was fully experienced in the procedure no problems and we used this Doctor for 3 years every 3 months for re-injection. Hello nomansland, my wife had this condition intermittently for a period and rightly or wrongly I treated it rather as one does for cramp. From the front I placed one forearm against each of her shoulders and my hands around the back of her head and gently eased her head foreword to the normal position, maintaining it there until the tendency to return had passed. It seemed to work and she looked much more comfortable afterwards and didn't give any indication the the procedure hurt her as much as the cramped position had. How long the condition would have lasted, had I not intervened (perhaps interfered), I don't know because I was always there when it happened and stretched the cramped muscles immediately it occurred. Eventually, after three or four weeks the stiff neck episodes stopped; sadly pep didn't.

I'm not medically qualified so you may wish to discuss this with someone who is, I can only say it worked and didn't involve medication. Best wishes, Jerry.

Nomansland, My wife has a stiff neck but she doesn't look upward or downward. However, that is a symptom of PSP in some patients. Not unusual from what I've read to have the head tilted up or down with chin almost on the chest. Perhaps others will post more about this. Jimbo

Same with my hubby. He has a stiff neck but he can see forwards and a bit sideways to the left and the right. Definitely not up or down.
