Wow - I didn't realise there are TWO types of PSP. What is the difference between PSP-R and PSP-P?

Yes -there are -PSP-R stands for richardson -this is the form of PSP that has to do with more cognitive and less about the rigidness etc. PSP-P stands for Parkinsonism -the form of PSP that has less to do with the cognitive and more with falling, rigidness, stiffness etc. And now they are even talking 4 different types. Also -have you heard of the PSP rating scale?

The presenting symptom with PSPR is often falls or visual disturbance and there is less likely to be a response to levodopa. The progression is likely to be slower with PSP-P. As we know it a can often be difficult to get a diagnosis of PSP, only a few specialists will differentiate between the different types. There needs to be more study so we can understand these conditions better.
