Good Morning,

Does anyone have recommendations on a good physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor and ED therapies in NYC, Jersey City or Hoboken, NJ? And who accepts Emblem Health Insurance?

Thanks

I couldn't be more confident recommending Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Sillerman Center for Rehabilitation. I had what they called pelvic floor rehab at Mt. Sinai (where I regrettably had my surgery). It was a total waste of time. All they did there was an anal probe with an electric shock to stimulate the muscle. I had an artificial urinary sphincter device implanted at MSK and was sent to their rehab facility. It was like night and day. As for ED therapy, I went to the surgeon's office at Mt. Sinai Urology. I am planning on getting a referral to John Mulhall, MSK Urologic Surgeon for sex rehab but haven't done so yet. But I anticipate he is as good as everyone I have encountered at MSK. Their entire cultural approach is good science with a patient focus in my experience.

Hi PCGeroge,

I had my surgery done at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, 8 weeks ago, and i have to admit that i have been very disappointed with the follow up treatment which has really been non-existent when it comes to incontinence and ED therapy.

I have read on here that many guys had begun ED therapy days after surgery, my doctor has been silent about therapies for ED and incontinence, other than to say we'll see in six months to a year. Very disappointing.

Thank you for the recommendation to MSK I've kind of thought that is what i may have to do.

My surgery was at the Mt. Sinai on Madison in the upper 90's. That was a true nightmare in itself. But all of my follow up care with doctors outside of Mt. Sinai have pointed fingers and just shook their heads at the follow up treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Laura Leddy at MSK for the urinary incontinence issue.

Hi PCGeorge,

Im a recent patient at MSKCC and had HDR Brachytherapy on 3/29/19 and on my 7 day on Low Dose Radiation treatment now. What is sex rehab and what sort of treatments are done? I've never heard of it.

Thanks, LoveyDovey.

Well there is pelvic floor treatment/rehab. MSKCC is in midtown and their physical therapist were so many light years ahead of the other place I went to. I gather that sooner rather than later is generally the thinking. Your doctor at MSCC should refer you to the PT. The therapy is to strengthen the pelvic floor and includes internal massage and a variety of other exercises.

The sex rehab specifically was with Dr. John Mulhall. It involved both exercises and treatment. Exercises like kegels to give you an idea. Self manipulation was recommended (use it or lose it). A vacuum pump discussed. And may involve seldenifil (the little blue pill) and self injecting the penis with a BiMix, Trimix and so forth. The first time or two injecting oneself it is daunting but becomes routine. As soon as I realized that the only thing I felt was the initial break through the top layer of skin I was good to go. They may work to adjust the dosage and mix. Ultimately, If nothing else works there is the option of a implant.

There is nothing to lose and much to be gained potentially. Good luck!

Hi PCGeorge,

Thanks for the reply and information. I go to the Basking Ridge Cancer Center in NJ which is only a few miles from me closeby. My doctor Just prescribed that Blue Pill about a week ago unfortunately Cigna denied it for experimental reasons. He's working on the appeal. Did you start PT during or after treatment?

Sadly, I started after. When I approached my surgeon about it he said he forgot to advise me.

The sex enhancer pills are never covered by insurance. It is a medical necessity in our case but they refuse to cover them.

The sex rehab doctor can steer you to better pricing, but it is out of pocket.
