Tips for HDR Brachytherapy 2 Sessions

Hi

I will be getting two treatments for HDR Brachytherapy in September at MD Anderson in AZ. Any tips with diet or exercising etc to heal and reduce the discomfort from it. You can see my diagnosis in my profile. Luckily for me prostate cancer has not spread. Currently on Orgovyx ADT . Have been working out daily - weight training 5 days a week and at least a half hour of cardio daily. Eating a low glycemic and consuming at least a 120-150 g of protein a day to maintain strength and muscle mass.

You may want to avoid squats, straining and biking for a few days after the catheter insertions but increasing cardio is a good idea.

I underwent HDRB x2 sessions in October 2020. Other than a little discomfort for a few days after each session life went on as normal. Weight lifting was not a problem as long as major pressure was not put on the perineum. Cardio was no issue at all (I don't use nor would I recommend using the bike for a while). My procedures took place during bow season so needing to urinate every hour was an issue in terms of sitting quietly :) Best of luck!

Thank you - I figure biking will be out for a little bit till I heal but good to know I will be able to do other stuff.

Do as they say for after the treatments and you will be fine. After my second one a week after the first I was doing all a week later, per what I was told to do.
