Important caveat regarding estrogen therapy

Prof. Richard Wassersug tells me that estrogen therapy may be contraindicated if you have a BRCA 1 or 2 gene mutation.

You can get a free, saliva germline genetic test of 30 genes from Color, Inc. as part of the PROMISE registry.

Thanks......what proportion of men have those mutations?

According to ChatGPT, the incidence is 1 out of 400 to 1 out of 800, but is higher if there is a family history of BRCA gene mutations being present.

Thanks....the risk is so low that I wouldn't worry about it......unless of course I knew family history re those mutations...most men wouldn't know of course.

Wow such info! I have 2 gene deviations of CHEK2 with "unknown significance", does that have impact on Estrogen therapy?

I don't think anyone has studied this.

Has anyone found a good USA source for estrogen short of a doc's Rx?

Actually, Estrogel.com has their own doctor who will write a prescription. Just call them, explain what you want it for, and they will approve it over the phone. Easy Peasy

You might try estrogel.com. In any case, I think you'll need a MD's prescription.
