I had SBRT in 2010. My acute side effects were mostly urinary - stream stopping and starting, getting up at night to pee. Rectally, I learned to never trust a fart and had tenesmus. That lasted about 2 weeks. Never had any ED, but ejaculate was reduced. Then, 1 year later, I had a return of urinary symptoms that lasted a couple of months. Since then, 11 years ago, no side effects. Occasionally see some blood in urine as scar tissue sloughs off.
SBRT in 2021, initially for a few months, urinary discharge every couple of hours, that is much better now and close to pretreatment. No issue with SpaceOar. ADT is another issue, but that was not mentioned. I am very pleased with my treatment choice 1 year out.
SBRT 2 years ago. Acute symptoms: urinary urgency for a few days. Used AZO to help calm down bladder. No other acute issues. Post SBRT symptoms: ejaculate very much reduced. No ED and "drier" orgasms appear to be more intense! Drink lots of water, exercise and eat healthy meals. The other consideration. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the radiation increased my symptoms especially peeing! So, if one has other medical conditions or disorders keep in mind the SBRT "may" affect those.
I just finished SBRT at UCLA a few months ago so I can't speak to any long term side effects, but I can tell you what my short term side effects have been. Also, just to note, I didn't get the SpaceOAR and I'm on six months of ADT. My side effects have been very minimal. On the urinary side, I had a little bit weaker steam initially, but that's gotten better. I had a bit more urgency and frequency, but not really enough to be bothersome. I've also found it harder to completely empty my bladder, but again, not that bad and they did offer me Flowmax that I wasn't that interested in taking. No bowel issues and no ED issues. It's really been very smooth so far and I'm hoping that it stays that way.
i had SBRT in Feb 2019. Some urinary urgency for a few weeks, but no accidents. Had Space OAR, but did have some bowel urgency and frequency issues for several months. No accidents on that end either, but can’t say I got any benefit from the Space OAR. Have reduced ejaculate, but hasn’t completely dried up. Not sure if it will. No ED, but I take a lowest dose Cialys daily that has nearly eliminated sleep interruptions to pee.
