Biotin 400 mcg 1,333% DV

How long before my PSA test should I stop taking this supplement?

Thanks!

The article says, "Consider that the daily recommended allowance for biotin is 0.03 mg and that amount does not typically cause interference in lab tests". I'm currently taking 400 mcg daily which is about 12x more. I'm thinking that stopping 7 or 8 days before the PSA should be good OR I can just wait 2 weeks then test.

I'm curious, why are you taking it?

"

Low concentrations of biotin are cleared quickly from the circulation of healthy individuals, with an elimination half-life of approximately 2 hours whereas experiments with high doses indicate a half-life up to 18.8 hours"

I'd guess most of it is cleared within 3 days. I don't know what effects it has on PSA but 2 weeks "feels" like it might be safe.

I was seeing if Bcomplex would help with sugar cravings...

Perhaps you don't need to wait as long as I thought.

18 years ago I decided that I wound not take any vitamin or mineral before exploring the PCa literature.

I have many posts on folate (folic acid- vitamin B9) & vitamin B12. Half of the world followed the FDA mandate that fortified grain products with folic acid to prevent neural tube defects. The other half refused, since folic acid can unmask occult cancer.

Folate is a methyl donor. PCa is avid for methyl, which it uses to silence tumor suppressor genes.

B12 is a cofactor necessary for folate to convert homocysteine to methionine (and on to SAM, the universal methyl donor in the body.)
