Radiation Cystisis?

I've posted in the last few weeks about initially having some blood in my semen. Then had an instance of light blood in urine. Then the random bloody clot in urine.

In the last few days, blood and clot/s are coming out with almost every urination. Sometimes at the start, sometimes near the end. I have a consult and possible cystoscopy booked for Tuesday morning with urologist. I was hoping like most posts I read, that this would be random thing and go away. Maybe a dumb question, but how bad do I let it get before going to ER, prior to Tuesday? If it stays the same as now, so be it and wait.

Two years post EBRT and HDR brachy. Still taking Rapaflo every other day or so.

Thanks

It would be good to see your urologist ASAP. If you can't get in sooner & a clot blocks the flow of your urine (you won't be able to pee at all), you will have to go to ER. Happened with my hubby. Serious stuff & can damage kidneys. Good luck.

If there is copious blood flow such that you're becoming anemic, it has to be fixed. Or if any of the clots are not being peed out but are blocking the flow, you have to go to the ER for a catheter. With brachy boost therapy, there can be blockage 1 or 2 years afterwards.

And turns out that with (at least) IMRT it can occur many years later: 5-10, even 20, I read. As I understand, using less powerful radiation nowadays. But not when my husband had 39 sessions in 2016, apparently. Damaged urethral membrous tissue. He self-caths now 3-4 times a day to try and keep it clear. But this is the second bout, with incontinence struggle to boot. He's 78-1/2 not candidate for various surgeries. Sorry to go on. . .

Thanks. Been sticking to only water intake today and tonight. Will see what the morning brings. This sucks! Off ADT for a year, testosterone (and libido) back to low normal, last PSA at 0.2. All going great until this. Worries me!

The symptoms you describe have happened to me three times in two years. Each was a clot and bleeding, and limited to just two voidings. The first one git checked with a scope. I just discussed them with my urologist yesterday. He says it is likely radiation cystitis. I had IGRT 14 years ago. He cautioned that having had radiation I have an increased risk of bladder cancer. His guidance is that as long as they are isolated short events, not to worry. But if they last for a full day's voidings or increase frequency it will be time to test and treat aggressively. Based on your description, I'd say you have reached that point.

I had this (hematuria) on and off for a few years, twice ER/hospital for catheter. Uro advised feet up and drink lots of water when hits. Then, last Sept/Oct, 6 weeks of heavy blood flow every time. Treated with a drip of amino-caproic acid which stopped it totally, so far so good. Comes with side effects, so they do not do it initially. In my case, normal blood pressure was cut in half, quickly responded to pumping me with fluids.

Thanks so much for they replies! Fortunately, from later last night to this morning, things have been clear. Just had a coffee so we'll see if that has any affect on it. Will go back to mainly water for the rest of the day.

Seeing blood is always a frightening concern...... Let's hope the water over water over water helps. See your urologist asap.....(don't wait till Tuesday)

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
