Full body rash after treatments - related?

Hi all. My father was diagnosed with PCa at stage IIC in March, 2020. His treatments have included brachytherapy, ADT, and about 30 radiation treatments. He finished the radiation therapy in early August and is still on ADT.

After he completed radiation, he broke out all over his body in a bumpy, itchy rash that WILL NOT go away. He has been to the ER, his primary, his oncologist and now going to a dermatologist about this rash. Steroids and prescription creams are not helping at all. He hasn’t changed his diet or been doing anything differently, as he is quarantining at his home.

Could this rash be related to the cancer or treatments?

Thanks for any insights.

Does oral benadryl or oral steroids do anything? I guess it must be an allergic reaction to the ADT or an auto-immune reaction. Perhaps switch to Firmagon? How are his liver tests?

I’m asking him all these questions now- thank you! Appreciate any thread we can follow to get this figured out ASAP

He went to the dermatologist today who thinks it must be one of the meds so he’s doing another high dosage of oral steroids and cream. Also changing flomax to uroraxotrol. We’ll see what happens.

Hi, I wish that I could help you, but nothing has happened to me, that I am aware of, since after the first two or three months following my brachytherapy. In a sense, this seems to be good news, as it has been two years or so since my treatment, but with the pandemic I have not been able to see the oncologist since last year. I have had a PSA test, which has suggested no recurrence of the cancer, and I have talked to the oncologist by telephone, but I have felt fairly well, with no new problems, and so I cannot share any experiences with you. What happened after my brachytherapy was that I experienced several weeks of extreme incontinence, but I was given medication that worked very rapidly, and I am almost back to my previous level of continence, and I get up at most once or twice a night and sometimes not at all. I have had some erectile dysfunction, but I attribute this to being 72 as much as to the brachytherapy. I can still ejaculate on occasion, but it is nothing in comparison with before, but I am not really worried about this. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for sharing, you’re awesome. I’m so encouraged to hear you have been doing well and hope the same for my father.

All the best to you.

Update- my father had a biopsy done of his rash, and it turned out he was allergic to one of his meds. Thank you Tall_Allen, you called that!

It’s most likely the Flomax. He’s feeling better since stopping that medicine.

Really appreciate beyond words being able to post here during this time. Sending my love and respect to all of you who are going through this out there.
