Just curious I was expecting to have to fill my bladder during treatment but they asked for the opposite to empty out right before. Is this usual?

No - in fact, that's dangerous. Is that Dr. Gottschalk? I think you should ask him about that before your next session.

Yes I’ll ask for sure, I thought it was odd

I emailed and they called me right away and said yes void before treatment. They said for that machine that’s the protocol

Sounds strange. Just make sure you're not talking to an inexperienced clerical person who might be confusing bladder with rectum. And reconfirm with the Technician and MD when you go in.

Thanks. No it was one of the RO assistants that called me. She said on Cyberknife they don’t do it. It was strange I’ll definitely ask when I go Monday for sure

ODave, have you started treatment yet? I am also about to start in a few weeks so will check with my team to get you more input. I was also assuming full bladder but prep sheet actually doesn't call this out which I find odd now that I look closer.

45 I started Thursday 1st treatment. Next week 3 more days and done. I’m going to double check when I get there Monday. I tried to find more info online and I see there have been studies that some of the newer technology is showing no difference between full and empty bladder since the machine is so precise. They also didn’t use OAR which some do. I remember talking to the Dr when I went for the initial scans and he said I wouldn’t need a full bladder since I’d be in the table like an hour or hour and a half and most can’t hold it that long. I don’t know, it only took me 30 minutes. I said I thought it was going to be an hour or so. He said you were aligned really well and empty bowel etc. so it went faster. I’m definitely asking more on Monday to be sure but if everyone they Cyberknife is getting same as me I guess that’s what it will be.

My question also is there any downside to having it full, other than what your doc mentioned about not being to hold it that long.

So confirmed. They said all SBRT/Cyberknife at UCSF empty bladder before treatment and done in 4 visits. First I’ve heard about it but they are the professionals I guess
