So, I had my LRP Tuesday, discharged Wednesday. Overall, less awful and disruptive so far than expected. Tip of the hat to MSKCC's crack surgeons, nurses and support personnel.
But this gas! They can put a man on the moon, but they can't outsufflate?
Just venting, gentlemen. Just wish my body cavity would do the same.
Yes the gas is horrendous, but should resolve in a couple of days. Walking around helps. Morphine doesn't!
I was advised by my doc's nurse yesterday that even though the pain is clearly at a distance from the surgical site the surgery is likely contributing to the pain. Took one Norco (hydrocodone/acetaminophen)--maybe helped a little. My instructions put great emphasis on recovering normal bowel movements, and I'm looking forward to my first with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
I guess Gas-X is an American product for easing intestinal gas. The gas in the case of RP is not intestinal gas, i.e. it isn't IN the intestines, it is OUTSIDE the intestines in the abdominal cavity. If Gas-X is what I guess it is, then it will have no effect.
Sure--though I was advised to eat "non-gassy" foods--don't need intestinal distension on top of my peritoneal distension. In any case, the worst of the gas pains have stopped.
Right, being vegetarian, I'm never really without some of the latter sort of gas!
