Gleason 9 how aggressive and is it curable

I’m new. 54 psa 12 Gleason 9. Biopsy showed nothing in right lobe one in left with a Small tumor on left. Had prostate removed 3 weeks ago along with 30 lymph nodes on the left. All margins and nodes negative. First check will be August 27. Doctor seems to thing no other treatment needed so far. Has anyone had the cancer reappear? I know it’s very aggressive and everyone is different but any help is welcome. Thanks JBum

Hello JBum,

I'm pretty new here too. I'm six months past robotic-assisted RP at world famous US hospital. I had Gleason 9 scores in three cores, invasion of one seminal vesicle, none in lymph nodes and negative surgical margins. Surgeon says I'm a prime candidate for recurrence. So, I'm tracking my PSA very carefully, every 90 days or so. Last result was 0.05.

Tale it as you will of course, but my perspective is to be as proactive as possible and try to kill or inhibit any possible remaining cancer cells through a radical change in diet. You'll find the subject covered handsomely in Dr. Michael Greger's website: Nutritionfacts.org.

I think of it as sitting duck vs guerrilla fighter. Best of luck to you and to us all! :)

Thanks. I have changed my diet and started to exercise at a harder level. I will be checking my psa every 3 months.

Was there any sign of metastasis in the MRI or bone scan? If not, you are probably in good shape...

None was found in either. All contained in the prostrate. Thank you

I agree with longungro. There is a lot of evidence to support good diet, lots of exercise and reducing visceral fat. Also some evidence for non standard cancer medications Aspirin, Statins and Metformin. Suggest you discuss this with your oncologist.

Hi JBum,

I had my RRP September 2017 same like you G(4+5), PSA remain undetectable for 15 months, till January 2019 start to increase it was < 0.008 for 4 times (3 months interval)

January 2019 detectable PSA 0.020 then February 0.030 then March 0.05.

My advice also to you is to try to do meditation / use relaxation breathing techniques. I had a bad emotional situation 1 month before my PSA become detectable, so there is always some trigger that cause the recurrence.

Good luck
