Prescribe Exercise to All Cancer Patients, Says New Guideline
Thanks for the post - Here is a non-subscription site, too. Seems exercise helps reduce side effects during treatment, the rate of new cancers developing, and levels of functioning during treatment : newsweek.com/all-cancer-pat...
Excellent news - as I head out the door to the gym!
I know that too many people would need a prescription to exercise in order to get their butt in gear. You would think the threat of cancer would give people all the incentive they would need to get into an exercise program. That and changing your diet permanently to give the best chance of beating the cancer. As the saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water...".
David,
Exercise helps me. When I was in a clinical trial at NIH the docs told me that they get the best results from those who exercise. When I saw the article, it backed up what they told me. For me, I put my body to work by walking as much as I can, take the stairs at work, do yard work, lift light weights and ride elliptical once or twice a week. Working out and sweating helps me in many ways - physically and mentally. Encourage my colleagues here to use your body and exercise when you can.
I know people who are almost 100 lbs over-weight and newly diagnosed with diabetes and they still won't get off their butts to exercise. Some people think it is the doctor's job to maintain their health.
Very good Paqfas, sweating is the key to actually getting the benefit of exercise. Too many of the people I see in the gym are just going through the motions, not working up a sweat at all. I do interval training on a stationary bike. That makes you sweat like a pig. I do moderate weight lifting (nothing to prove). When it isn't raining for weeks on end, my wife and I ride a 26 mile loop near our condo here in south Florida.
