Biopsies While On Active Surveillance Do Not Have A Negative Affect On Sexual And Urinary Functioning Post Surgery

Some men have expressed concern that having multiple biopsies when on active surveillance mean that they will have poorer functional outcomes if their cancer progresses and move on and have surgery. In a retrospective study it was found that having increasing numbers of biopsies would not negatively affect either urinary or sexual function 1-year postoperative.

This finding should provide some reassurance with respect to early functional outcomes after radical having a radical prostatectomy. However, we still need to remember that the biopsy itself does come with some inherent risk for infection.
