My intro.

My husband was recently diagnosed with Greason 8, PSA 27.

Just feeling very overwhelmed. Doctor says it’s curable, but what I’ve read doesn’t seem to support that. I’m beyond scared.

Plus we recently moved out of state so our family and friends are very far away.

Gleason 8 is aggressive, but if contained you might beat it... I was Gleason 9 . PSA 61 and climbing and metastasized at the start and I'm still working my way through aPca and into my 5th year. You have much better chance to get through this than I had, so keep ;your spirits up. Wishing you success in your treatments and a long and happy life.More info would really help us to help you..

Welcome to a club we would prefer not to be included in. Been on this journey with my husband for 12 years. When he was diagnosed he was given five years and he is still going. Yes, it has been hard and we’ve shed a lot of tears, but there are so many options now to treat it. My recommendation is to learn as much as you can about it. Make sure you trust your oncologist, by asking questions. Also join the Advanced Prostate Cancer group, here on Male Care. There you will find a great group of knowledgeable warriors going thru the same thing as your husband. They are always there to provide information that you can then review and ask about at your next doctor’s appointment. It will feel overwhelming at the beginning, but you will find you are now part of a great community. We are here to support one another. Don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Charline

12 years! It must have consumed you!! Thank you for your response. Yes, I will join the advanced group. ☹️Advanced is a tough word to hear, while still digesting everything. Unfortunately accurate.

Thank you Charline. Best wishes to you.

Yes. The words “I have cancer’ and “he has cancer”are just too horrible to say.I’m trying to be optimistic. Thank you.

Ohjustme, here are some (oversimplified) basics, in case you don't know. As Shooter1 says, your husband has a good chance to be cured if the cancer is contained in the prostate gland, as opposed to spread outside it (metastasized). (A little spreading may still be OK.) Your husband will get tests to determine the degree of spread, if any. Based on those results, he may be offered curative treatment -- usually, (1) removal of the prostate gland (radical prostatectomy) or (2) radiation of it. If the cancer is shown to have spread (especially distantly), it'll be too late for curative treatment, and the goal of treatment will be to extend life for as long as possible, as well as possible. Nowadays, that can be many years, and very well.

The bone scan showed 3 mysterious spots. Oncologist said he’d need a biopsy to determine if it’s cancer. But said they’re going to treat him as stage 2 and watch the spots. Although it might be a stage 4.I need many more years with him so cross your fingers.

Thank you for your response.

My husband was Gleason 8, PSA 29 at diagnosis 2 years ago at the age of 58. His cancer is metastatic to his pelvis, ribs, femurs, shoulders and spine. We are doing everything possible to keep him alive and free of pain. There have been multiple interviews with oncologists and hospital systems all over the state of Ohio. Do what you can and as far as 2nd and 3rd opinions. Prayers up for you and your husband. Please reach out if you ever need a friend. 💙

I cannot imagine the shock and devastation when you heard how much it spread!! I’m so sorry.

Prayers sent for you and your husband.

So much conflicting information about treatments.

Our research is ongoing.

Thank you for your response.

He became castration resistant within a couple months. Please move fast and find out if your husband needs surgery. My husband could not have surgery. I'll send you a private message.
