I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first and all quite new to this, when people talk about 'flutters' what do they feel like, I know I probably haven't had any yet as most of people I have spoke to say it normally happens around 20 weeks, just wana know what I am meant to feel as I don't have a clue.

what are flutters
Hiya, the best way I could describe my flutters as similar to a pulse / twich you can feel which will be totally out of time with your heartbeat ( that's how I could first tell I made sure it wasn't my pulse)it's not massive so if your busy most of the time it would be difficult to feel, im fifteen weeks two days pregnant with twins and I think I can feel them purely because I have two. I think if I had a single baby I could miss it, I think when I can feel them it's when they must both be going mental inside haha. The last time I felt mine were last night, but a few days ago I was worried sick as I had a very quiet time and hadn't felt anything for a few days so I assume it's pretty sporadic at the moment till our babies are bigger. Hope this helps xxxx
thank u yes it helps a lot, its just between having my scan and seeing my midwife I feel a bit like, hope everything is ok as I don't feel poorly anymore although I am being sick in the morning I am eating what I would of eaten before (within reason) but its just that not knowing so least I know if I feel that little twitch or something then its the baby but I don't expect to feel anything right now. thank u and take care xx
To me it felt a bit like you had a little butterfly in your stomach tickling you from the inside. But it is very faint and in the beginning i wasn't even sure this was the baby until it happens third, fourth time and then you kind of assume it must be IT
Don't worry though, you are still early to feel it - i'm 20 weeks today, and sometimes don't feel anything all day and other days i feel him/her a few times. x
hello, im 15 weeks & 5 days pregnant, this is my 3rd pregnancy, and in the last few days I have been feeling flutters they feel like a bubble in side me, sumtimes feel like wind, also like the above comment , they are really hard to describe, also when you feel them, you think was that a flutter or not, don't worrie that if you haven't felt them yet you will very soon when you don't expect it
everyone is different some people can feel them really early, says between 14weeks &22 weeks can start to feel them, everyone is different tho,
hi, I don't know if I have felt anything yet or not, I am currently sitting on my sofa and I felt something but I don't know if its because I want to feel something or it is baby. it kind of feels like a something is gently pushing on my insides but not aggressively just a little poke. I just want to listen to the heartbeat in 2 weeks as this will just reassure me as my scan was on 25th feb so going from then until 9th april without hearing/seeing anything is scary so if i can feel it would b amazing.
like Jacuzzi bubbles but just on the inside - and they are normally in the same pattern so it would hardly take you two days to realize your baby's pattern and what makes her flutter and what puts her to sleep. My first ones were only after week 20 - first pregnancy too.
You are definitely right that it is reassuring once you can feel regular movements, and don't have to wait for the next scan to know that everything is ok. I don't think I started feeling movements until a week or so after they say to expect them, and they were very faint at first, but quickly became unequivocally baby movements! At first, I would say it is difficult to distinguish from indigestion(!), but then I would agree with Kazzacollie's comment that it feels a bit like a pulse. Once you feel one movement, put your hand on your stomach and close your eyes - that should help you concentrate on whether it is the baby you are feeling! Good luck x
I first felt her at 17 weeks and it was like bubbles,im 21 weeks now and feel her movements properly everyday,my partner can feel them too which makes him feel like she's actually there! Everyone is different though and it depends where the placenta is
im 18weeks with my 2nd and started to feel movements 2 weeks ago , to me its like being flicked or a similar sensation to muscle twitch ! its not possible to feel from outside yet .
with my 1st I remember I was lying on my stomach when I 1st felt him but i cant for the life of me remember how many weeks I was . I do remember him moving around when I had my 20 wk scan and them asking if I could feel the kicks they could see him doing on screen and I couldn't so can only presume it was after then . even when I was further on he didn't move a lot , I had 2 count specifically to make sure he was doing at least 10 movements a day, hes now a laid back 3yo . me and a colleague were pregnant at the same time and her baby kicked for everyone , my best friend at work got 1 kick from me even though I was with her all the time ! not every baby will b doing a jig all the time .
I have a Doppler iv been using with this pregnancy that I didn't have with 1st and find it very reassuring but also addictive ! I was 10 weeks when I 1st found hb and check nearly every day and haven't failed to find baby yet , also u can tell when baby moves as it makes a funny sound on Doppler . I recently got back from a 2 week holiday and I hated not being able to check . cant believe I waited weeks and week between midwife appointments with 1st .
I think feeling them move is the best part of being pregnant , it will b your turn soon enough : )
Hi there
I skipped the flutter stage completely and went straight to feeling proper kicks at about 23 weeks. I think it can depend on how your baby is laying. If their limbs are facing your back you would feel a lot less than someone where the limbs are facing the front and kicking out into the bump.
I'm 36 weeks now and it's not so much kicks as limbs trying to break through Alien style!!
