I'm 21weeks and having really bad pain in my left hip.. I can hardly walk.. I have even had to leave work early today and its reduced me to tears!.. Is there anything I could do to stop or ease it and is there anything I should avoid doing?

Generally there isn't much that can be done: saw physio on Friday and was given exercises to do and told to come back to get crutches adjusted. I'm 20 weeks, in pain since 16 weeks. Chiropractor can help: going for weekly appointments to keep off crutches.

Does sound like PGP (or SPD--each medical professional I've come into contact seems to prefer a different term), but of course best to still follow up with your midwife to be sure, and even if it is just that, you'll want to discuss it with her at your next appointment. I posted some information about my experiences with it in response to another post here: nct.healthunlocked.com/ques.... That was nearly a month ago and I continue to be in relatively little pain, so there's hope. The one thing in my original post you may want to ignore or discuss with your midwife is the advice I was given by my physio to measure the distance I could comfortably spread my legs. I found that that was difficult because how far I can comfortably spread my legs depends on what else I'm trying to do at the time. If I'm just lying in bed I can spread them pretty muh as far as I like, but if I'm trying to do anything even mildly strenuous, like get in or out of a car, it's a different story, so what am I supposed to measure? I asked my midwife this, and even though she seemed pretty knowledgeable about this kind of pain, she'd never heard of such advice and didn't think it sounded particularly useful.

Ok thank you ladies :). I would discuss it with my midwife if she would answer her phone but I've got a really crap midwife and she does seem to know much and never told me much either :/ x

Hi sorry for the pain. I had this with my last 2 kids and it was excruciating. I had to reduce my hours at work to cope. I had bad and good days. I found it too difficult to come out of bed or turn and the pain was always in my left hip.. If i sat down for a long time or rested then it was too painful to get up, It got worse as the pregnancy progressed. I had a physio referral and that helped. I was wearing a support belt and having weekly exercises. I have to say that helped and I was given advise on ways to minimise the pain. Good news is that it resolves as soon as the baby is born. Hang in there all the ladies suffering with this condition. There is light at the end. Good luck xxxx
