With the summer finally arriving next week, I still want to look nice rather than pasty white and sunbed is now out of question. I've used various self-tanning creams in the past, those that gradually build up, but they stink and turn me into tangerine. Any ideas? Thanks

Fake tan - does anybody have any experience with fake tan?
Well, i've always found the build up creams work the best. If they're turning you into a tangerine then maybe you've been trying to dark a skin tone (I have a slightly olivey/medium complexion but always use light nonetheless)
It could be that your skin-type doesn't blend well with these creams. It is seems a bit odd, but my mum (for example) has skin that goes streaky if she applies any actual fake tan and so has to use the creams- maybe you're the reverse?
As for fake tans, the garnier ambre solair spray has always worked well for me an been highly rated by others who have tried it. I think you should definitely try light first if you do try it at all, however, because if the gradual creams are turning you orange then the chances of any fake tan doing the same are quite high.
You could always brave the sun in all your whiteness?
Pasty white is the new tan. Although ... we call it 'porcelain'
I used one once which had a wide, fine spray which was easier to apply. But really, I never liked any products I tried.
And I would be reluctant to use any such products on my skin during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Not sure whether any research would have been done into the potential health effects, and I would be reluctant to take on board any research 'sponsored' by the people who make cash from such products.
There are some colours and clothes that work brilliantly with paler skin. Why not try for a whole new look?
Thans both fo the tips :o)
I always used the light shades, just to take the 'porcelain' off, I think dark tan looks just ridiculous and OTT. Got myself Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, it's like make up for legs in spray, worked brilliantly, no developing time, no smell, no streaks. And for my arms I used Garnier Ambre Solaire tinted mousse, again, no smell and and it was a bit fiddly but only used it once and it lasted 5 days so far although it washes off gradually. And I'm not actually orange! So because I don't use much of those products I don't think I'm putting my little baby in danger, I think if I had to use it daily, something that needs to develop, I would not be comfortable with that and would have to abandon skirts. Good job all the fake tans are on offer at the moment!
You should not use fake tan while pregnant!!! the chemicals are not safe for the development of your baby!
