What moisturisers would you advise to use to try and prevent stretch marks??
I may be wrong, but I think that if you're going to get stretch marks you'll get them no matter what you do to try and avoid them! I was lucky and didn't get any on my tummy, but did get them on my breasts when I started breastfeeding. They've faded so much that I don't notice them anymore. It's just all part of the journey, I would say.
Ok thank you.
Hi,
The NHS has lots of information on stretchmarks - here's just one link on prevention: nhs.uk/Conditions/Stretch-m...
I am inclined to believe that good diet, daily massage (and very likely good genes!) have more influence on whether you end up with stretchmarks. That being the case, focus on the massage and pick an oil or tummy butter that smells yummy and makes you feel great - nothing wrong with a little pampering, and it'll help establish an early bond with your baby.

Ok thank you i will keep an eye out for some nice oils or tummy butter.
No worries.
Sanctuary have a yummy citrus smelling tummy butter - absorbs well after a few minutes. Avent also have a tummy oil (pump spray) which was really convenient, absorbed straight away and felt great. The Avent oil also had a very subtle citrus smell - great for after the baby arrives - better for mum to smell like mum.
But hey, most of the fun is in the shopping!
Ok thank you i will definately have a look.
I slapped on gallons of different creams during my first pregnancy and thought I'd cracked it when I didn't have any stretch marks - until I was 40 weeks and they slowly started appearing in that last week! I was gutted but now I don't notice them (and I'm preg with no 2 so I think they are only going to get worse!) x
Ok thank you i have none yet as i have not really put on any weight at all yet as im 15 weeks tomorrow but i already have stretch marks from where my skin has stretched through puberty and im already self consious about those.
Good question! I personally agree with the first post, if you gonna get them, no matter what you use, you are gonna get them! I'm 8 weeks, 37 years old, I eat well, my weight never flactuated and I've had stretch marks for years and years. No idea why but luckily it doesn't bother me. Few years back I tried Palmers stretch mark cream just to see if it makes any difference and guess what? None whatsoever. I have dry skin so I mosturise with body butters and rich creams anyway so I beieve some of us just can't change things. But I do like the idea of masagge, will dedfinitelly have a go at it, thanks rmh2012!
No worries - it was a great tip from NHS website. They had reviewed studies involving two products which claim to be the miracle cure for stretch marks, and the studies (NOT clinical studies performed by NHS, mind) suggested that the products made little or no difference to stretch marks sustained during pregnancy, but seemed more effective with stretch marks obtained earlier (usually during teens). They suggested that massage rather than the product was probably responsible for any improvement.
They indicated that level of elasticity in the skin was the main factor in whether or not you get stretch marks, and suggested that good diet etc plus massage may help.
Was a reassuring read, and I'm more than happy to go with the feel good / smell good option

I have had 2 pregnancies and now 5 months into the third, no stretch marks yet! I swear by Palmer's Cocoa Butter and their Stretch Mark cream, I slather it on every day and it always feels nice and you can almost feel the tight skin softening as you go. I have also heard Bio Oil is good but it's quite pricey.
