I did PGT-A testing, could my unborn baby have down's syndrome?

I am currently 18 weeks 5 days pregnant following a successful IVF cycle. I undertook PGT-A testing as I am 41 years old.

I got a call today from my midwife advising that my blood test has come back with a higher chance result for down's syndrome. I thought that as PGT-A testing was done and showed no chromosomal abnormalities it meant that the baby wouldn't have down's; Edwards or Patau syndrome. Now I am panicking.

Should I be worried, or would the PGT-A testing have shown Down's Syndrome up as a chromosomal abnormality? I have a NIPT blood tomorrow but the results won't be back for 7-10 days and I am seriously panicking.

Has anyone else been in the same situation or know about this and what was the outcome?

Hi Systema,

If you are referring to the blood tests done in conjunction with the 12 week scan, I wouldn’t panic as my understanding is that the results are combined with your age to arrive at risk factor. So a baby with the same results as yours might be classified in a different bracket of chance if the mother was 20 years old. I would trust the PGT-A which has actually looked at the chromosomes. X
